I spoke with a certified IBM\LENOVO Thinkpad Partner in Gernany in order to have info about the forthcoming T61p. The said me, in Europe t61p will be available at the end of June... They also give me an official info about the first model that they are certified to sell in Europe. The link is http://t60p.de/thinkpad_t61p.html The good news are the following:
- 15.4 WUXGA (1920x1200)
- NVIDIA nVidia Quadro FX 570M (DIRECT X10)
- Possible the new HD drive of hitachi....7k200 (The salesman told me that over the phone).

Lenovo seems to continue the legend of T series p models...

If the new 15.4 WUXGA (1920x1200) panel is better than the old 15" 4:3. I think I am gonna get one.

I'm starting to suspect that the T61p will be available only in 15"+ sizes. I'm holding out for a 14" T61p, but none of the leaked information seems to support its existence.

A 14" T61p is coming in May end/June beginning.

AFAIK, you will have two options for GPU, a 128 MB card and a 256 MB one. I don't know about an 512 MB card option. A camera will be available on select models. And if I am not wrong, we will see a WSXGA+ option, but nothing higher than that on 14".

That sounds like the ideal laptop for me... I can't wait!

Same here. 14" WSXGA+ w/256 MB discrete graphics sounds like a winner.

Thanks for the info, gator. Sure wish I knew your source...

Does anyone know how heavy this T61p will be?

Anyone used a 15.4 WUXGA (1920x1200) screen before?

I would love to have more screen estate but I'm afraid that the 1920x1200 resolution might be just to small for the screen size.

All the time, almost everyday at work. I love it, but most people would find things too small. I strongly recommend you to see one in person before ordering one.

Doesn't changing the DPI settings make things bigger

In the display settings, there is a way to change the DPI for the display used. Don't have a high DPI display, so I don't know how well it works.
Supposed to work better in Vista than XP too, but I dunno.

Can you check that and see if it makes things bigger on the 15.4 19x12 screen?

The WUXGA question is working hard. I wonder if the T61p could be built with either a WUXGA or a WSXGA+ screen according to the orderer's preference.

Well, if you order a WUXGA and decide it is too small, you can use the screen in WSXGA+.... You are just out the extra you paid for the WUXGA...

...and you will be stuck with fuzzy graphics. Windows Vista is supposed to minimize the fuzziness caused by non-native resolutions, but it's still not as good as viewing things at the native res.

What is the MAIN difference between a non-p and a p model? I've had both, and the p model always had UXGA graphics, but not my current one, and not nnecessarily a 7k2 HD, or even a Fingerprint reader??? :?:

T60p has the newer FireGL gpu chipset and T60 the older ATI's either X1300 , X1400 or Intel's 950.

I had a Z61p with the WUXGA non-IPS 1920x1200 screen. Side by side with a 1600x1200 IPS (R50p 1832-22U), you could see the IPS was brighter with a better viewing angle. Without the side by side comparison, I was happy with the WUXGA non-IPS screen. I use 1200 vertical resolution in work and love it. Others who work with me on the same software don't like it.

I returned the Z61p for other reasons and I am ready to order a T61p or R61p with WUXGA and 7K200 hard drive as soon and Lenovo offers one. I don't think the R series will get the WUXGA screen but it might.

Getting something lighter than the Z61p will be an advantage for me also.

To show significant ratios and data about screen's configurations :

TFT-table

TFT-dpi

TFT-surface-dots

TFT-surface-cm²

From.

So for instance, to get an idea of how small is the typo on a WUXGA 15.4", which is 147dpi, one can try (in a store) the Sony T series 10.6" WXGA, which is 141dpi. Also consider the distance to the screen and the workspace size.

But,the key point is that when can I get it .

In the second-to-the-last chart, QXGA shoots through the roof! And as soon as the parts I ordered from Bontistic arrive, I will install QXGA on my R50p!

Bontastic,
You should take a good look at the QXGA screen on the R50p before jumping in. Yes, the resolution is amazing. However, note that it is NOT the standard thinkpad antiglare screen. Its a "mid-glossy" screen, with considerable reflection. However, its also a fairly dim screen, so you get the worst of both worlds. And...refresh is slow, with a good amount of ghosting. Awesome for static image editing..less so for video. Vista scalable fonts look very nice on it. Be careful and make sure you have the right video onboard your R50p..for some reason, a number of them went out the door with the craptastic Radeon 9600 64mb, vs the FireGL T2 128mb

Just a fair warning.
And for those of you who have never heard of QXGA, this was a special bid option ONLY for the R50p. 2048x1536 resolution, 4:3.

I dunno, it's not seeming like 14" standard screens are coming at all. Read Matt's latest blog post, he didn't say anything specifically but I'm getting the impression they won't be available.
