Cant Install SoundMax!!! :(

Hello Everyone,

I have two t60 machine type: 6371-E5U these came with Vista but I removed it and install XP, the only issue is that I cant get the sound card driver to work.

The SoundMax audio driver on the lenovo support site is 77a224ww.exe http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-62855

And it seems it needs the Microsoft Hotfix for Universal Audio Arch kb888111xp2en.exe http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-65456

So I install the kb888111xp2en.exe and it seems to do it just fine, but then when I try installing SoundMax (77a224ww.exe ) i get the following error "The HDA audio bus driver is required but not found".

I called IBM/Lenovo Support and the support guy said that the reason that why doesn't work is because it was designed for Vista.

That sounds to me like a bunch of bs*$%

So does anyone have an idea, it looks to me that the MS Hotfix is not working?

Thank you,

Welcome to the forum.

See this, even though it's for Z series but I hope it helps.

Repeat of this answer given under the Vista section....

Unfortunately, the SoundMax driver that Lenovo is distributing for Vista is flawed. It does not allow the speakers to function.

For now, the only workaround is to remove the Lenovo driver and then let Vista reinstall its own "reference driver" (which ships with Vista). That will restore the function of the speakers.

I've been waiting for a fix for this for a month now...the round of fixes released this week did not include a sound driver patch, much to my disappointment.

SO....--->>>>the Lenovo rep was telling you the TRUTH. The driver you were trying to install in XP is for Vista. So of course it won't work. By the way, I've had no problems with the sound driver that is for XP on my T60. Try running System Update 3 (Lenovo's all-purpose update utility) to get the drivers you need. That should fix the problem.

Hope this helps. Questions? Write to me....
