I need to replace a T42P with the UXGA Flexview screen that was alas stolen <sympathy here >.

Given that the FV displays are no longer available through Lenevo (can be found on eBay) and after much reading and investigation I've become fairly sure that the FV screen is the way to go. However I have not been able to personally see the WSXGA+. screen. The WSXGA can be found at Circuit City and Staples - it does not IMHO compare to the FV display from the T42P.

Has anyone seen the WSXGA and the WSXGA+ side by side? How do they compare?

Please clarify the nomenclature for us. Let's first consider the difference between SXGA and SXGA+:

SXGA = 1280x1024 or 1280x960 (usually the former)
SXGA+ = 1400x1050

So, the plus sign simply denotes more pixels. Now, the prefix "W" means widescreen, and thus WSXGA+ has more columns of pixels than SXGA+, i.e. 1680x1050. I've never heard of a widescreen version of SXGA, i.e. WSXGA doesn't exist.

Maybe "WSXGA" = 1280x800? It would be an anomaly in an otherwise fairly linear progression of sizes.

I have never seen a "WSXGA"
1280x800 is usually denoted as WXGA I believe
1440x900 is WXGA+

Personally, I find it easier and less confusing just to quote the [censored] pixel dimensions and be done with it.

lenovo will allow you to configure a 15" flexview t60, but it's not uxga:




Display type

WSXGA = 15.4" TFT (1280x800)
WSXGA+ = 15.4" TFT (1680x1050)

FlexView Displays were
SXGA+ = 15" (1400 x 1050)
UXGA = 15" (1600 x 1200)

You can indeed configure the 4:3 (1400 x 1050) FlexView display on the stardard T60 but not on the T60P. Via phone Lenovo does will commit to delivery.

Thanks for clarifying. The only difference between 1280x800 (i.e. WXGA) and 1680x1050 is that the latter has 72% more pixels, so that you have 72% more real estate, although the same objects will appear 72% smaller on the 1680x1050 screen. In terms of contrast, viewing angle, color depth etc., the two screens will be identical, or, as Puppy would put it, both screens are equally "crappy". Oh, also, the 1680x1050 screen might be slightly thicker and heavier, and it might consume more power (i.e. shorter battery life).

It does seem as noted elsewhere in this forum that laptop screens from all manufacturers have suffered as the prices have been driven down and screen production affected by TV sales.

It is sometimes unfortunate that the constant push to lower prices results in lesser products. Lenovo does seem to be holding theline a quality where possible.
