Location of 4-in-1 card reader is different on almost all models. 15.4 (T61 and R61) will have on the bottom like Z series and T61+R61 14.1 WS on the left side. This option won't be available for T61 14.1 as I mentioned before. I might have more info. perhaps, will post again later.

Corporate orders get filled before anything else. Plus the config may have been different than yours and more readily available.
That would explain the IBM logo...

T61 15.4 Widescreens

#33 Post by casper7777 » Fri May 25, 2007 2:25 pm

ryengineer, thank you very much for sharing information on the upcoming T61 15.4" widescreens. What a great scoop - do you care to share where or how you got the information?

Do you know when T61 15.4's will be realeased? Will it have the same upgraded/quieter cooling technology as the 14.1's? Will a webcam never be offered or will it be offered in later batches like the 14.1 WS?

Thanks.

Great! Are you going to sell your T60, or keep it and sell one of the older T-series thinkpads? Or you gonna have 'em all?

Maybe we'll see that in the next generation.

looking at the photo of the 15.4 inch widescreen, it seems there is less space on the sides than with the t60p WS. Does this mean that the keyboard is bigger?

You'll see them soon with the same Santa Rosa chipset and touch of art Cooling fan. Upon checking things again, I will support my previous statements, again T61 15.4 WS would not be offered with an integrated camera but R61 15.4 WS will be.

Perhaps or the picture is just too small and not doing the justice but I won't be surprised if lenovo does change it.

I have updated the pictures again.

Thanks for the pics. I was wondering if the 15.4 thinkpads had an off centered screen. I had trouble telling from the pics. Thanks again.

Just came home with a fat T61 after swapping my T60 with my co-worker for a day. Apparently he is having some BSOD issues with it. Turned it on and bam a BSOD, restarted it again, for half an hour Vista kept doing it's "normal stuff" then when it gave me an opportunity to work on, another BSOD.

Turned it off, opened it up, looked at it's internal organs, changed memory from lower to upper slot, fired it up and came here to post this message. Also, found some changes on system board. (if i remember correctly before boozing up)

To tackle the future BSOD's (in case) turned few options off in the Vista settings to note down the error from that nasty old blue screen. No one to blame as of yet.

If I look at the pictures ... TankPad ... thats all what jumps into my mind.

Concerning batter life, it seems that Lenovo is heading towards
desktop replacement with the T6x series. :?:

Why don't you guys talk to your bartenders about your pain? I am aware that I am a newbie to this forum, and postings like this will not make me Mr. Popularity here; but contentless whining does not exactly contribute to a healthy discussion. If you have to post here, you could at least tell the rest of us, what exactly hurts you so much.

Thus far, I have seen a notebook that has an off-centered screen and is slightly thicker than its predecessor. On the other hand, I also see a notebook that uses the (potentially) most powerful Intel platform with a state-of-the-art graphics chip. The T61 is apparently more solid than any other TP and comes cheaper than the T60. What the hell is wrong with that?

I agree. Since I've never owned a Thinkpad (only used my peers' on several occasions), I have the feeling someone like me would be able to give a much better assessment of the quality. Its not that I have more experience; like I mentioned above, I don't. But I won't be comparing it, so much...

Lets just wait and see! Most initial impressions tend to change over time, and since the T61 is still brand new, I'd give it some time to let its changes sink in. Hopefully, the initial impressions about build quality are wrong. :)

Any way you could run a futuremark '06 test and report the score?

After typing on T61 for about 15 mins I felt a strange feeling of foreignness that I had never felt on any thinkpad keyboards as of yet (have been an owner of A31p, two X31, R51, T60 and T60WS).

Keyboard build quality itself was fairly solid but it lacked the sweet touch and feel of previous keyboards I've seen in any thinkpad.
It is still difficult for me to know exactly what you mean. I will have to find a store that stocks the new T61s and try the keyboard myself.

Maybe the keyboard feels like the T23 (keys felt a bit mushy, soft instead of solid keystroke).

Thanks for your impressions :)

Sorry, it's kind of hard for me to imitate my feelings into words. But the keys were sort of hard and key travel took longer to respond to my fingers. Apparently, I felt I had to apply more force to get a response from them.

I could've but I just returned the machine back to my co-worker.

15.4 Widescreen options are now available to order, so far it has the same specs as I speculated, again integrated camera won't be an option for this or soon to be unleashed 14.1 non widescreen model.

Cheers!

ryengineer, Thanks for the pictures and the updates.

I can't seem to find any detailed specs on the 15.4" T61. The specs they list are vague and seem to describe only the 14" T61.

Do you know where I can find more detailed specs of the 15.4 T61? I'm especially interested in finding out if the weight increased due to the top cover roll cage and improved cooling system.
