I see over at newegg.com there are several different slim drives for upgrades - does anyone happen to know if these will fit a t60?
TIA

Actually, the t60 uses the ultra slim profile for cd\dvd drives. Slim drives will not fit in the t60 ultrabay.

there are a couple of things to consider when replacing your drive with a generic one.
1. form factor (already discussed)
2. do you have the proprietory connector or does the kit provide one? also does the bezel fit
3. is the drive set as master or slave?
besides buying an ibm part, the best thing to do is to
check out which drives ibm uses. get that drive,
then use the connector/bezel from an existing drive and place it on the new one

The T60 drive doesn't use an external connector/adapter. I'm sure you could change the internal connector, but it's probably not trivial.

i've done connector swaps for compaqs but no experience for ibms. it should be a simple swap with need for simple tools...
