I am interesting in buying a T60 or a T61, and want to cut costs by not buying the Windows preloaded OS. Are there any vendors in US that supply such Thinkpads?

I am not aware of any but even if you do the difference will be very minimal.

No, I assume the cost of OEM Windows is about 2% of the price.

Yes, you just have to buy a new machine from me for the other 97 percent. It's called OEM. ... JDH

Of course they are talking about how much it costs Lenovo to have Windows preloaded on a Thinkpad. It really should be no more than $20US per laptop on average.

There are three different T60p models without a pre-loaded OS. They are marketed as Linux-ready, but of course you can load any operating system you want:

26238YU - T2500 14.1" SXGA+
20078ZU - T2700 14.1" SXGA+
20079ZU - T2700 15" UXGA

Specs are otherwise the same, 1gb RAM, 100gb 7200rpm, DVD Multi-Burner, WiFi, Bluetooth, 256mb FireGL V5200. They come with the older Core Duo processor, but are easily upgradable to Core 2 Duo. I have the 26238YU and was able install a Core 2 Duo T7600 CPU by following the instructions in this forum.

I was thinking the same i hate Vista and i would love to use XP or Linux when i upgrade to T61 so a Thinkpad without an OS specially Vista would be really nice.

At lenovo.com, you can at least "downgrade" from Vista home/Business Premium to Vista Home Basic, which saves you ~ $35.00. The Home Basic is replaced with a real OS in no time. Somehow I like the XP/Kubuntu combo...

You can decline the user agreement when you first receive your laptop and call Lenovo to let them know. According to the user agreement, they HAVE to refund your money. Some guys do it before on a DELL laptop.
Or you can make your life easier by calling them before they ship your machine.

Someone has tried this with lenovo before, they told him to contact microsoft directly. AFAIK, the only often repeated success story has been with dell.

I'm also looking for T61 with no OS or Linux preloaded in US.

Don't about US, but I got T60p FlexView with no OS here in Croatia.
