R51 freezes with new 1 gig Kingston SODIMM. Can you pls recommend what brand of MEM i should try. I know the problem is the Kingston.

Now I have removed the other 256 from the inside slot, so I only have the Kingston. This has been running a few hours without a freeze. So it MAY have cured it

But now am I limited to 1 GIG? now I have empty slot. Advice please...

Probably incompatible timing between the two module. Try buying also an identical stick to the Kingston module to see if it works.

grm, please start a new topic stating your issue, and I will help you on that topic. In the meantime, this topic has begun to get confusing!


Please suggest what else I can do to make my laptop work, I have already done memory tests, CPU tests and RAM tests.


I just found a HDD fault, I did the inbuilt test.
Error Code 0000: Read Verification Failed
Please help,

Possibly the faulty HD cause freeze. Try chkdsk /r on cmd of windows to scan for bad sector.

When you suggest "identical" do you mean a Kingston 1 gig exactly identical or do you think a same brand 512 would work. You see I only want 1.5 gig I don't think I need 2 gig?

Incompatibily sounds right because I have 'nt had a freeze yet in two days - six hours use!

Sorry I didn't realise this was YOUR thread. I am new here.

I will start a new thread with name: ANOTHER LAPTOP FREEZES problem.

I will ask XII or anyone else if they think there is a way to check if the Kingston 1 GIG is the problem.without buying another MEM. I never heard of incompatibility until after now after I bought it, and after I talked to Lenovo dealer. He had told me just to get same type SODIMM any brand. I wonder why incompatibily is kept secret by IBM/Lenovo.

By compatibility, I mean when you use two sticks with incompatible timing, the system forces itself to run in the highest latency of the two. Sometimes the other RAM stick does not like this timing --> BSOD. Try buying another Kingston stick that is exactly identical to the one you have and you should be fine.

@Panarchy:
You mentioned that your harddrive returned an error so I suggest typing chkdsk /r to check for bad sectors in cmd.exe. Sometimes, if the hard drive can not write to the bad sectors, the system can freeze until it can find another new sector to write to.

I used a SODIMM with the same timing. Only the Ram size and the munufacturer are different. Timing is 333 and the specs came from the Thinkpad maintenance manual.
Also I started another topic here and the latset is that I now have it working if the original Ram is removed. This is the only answer I can see to the incompatability issue.
I tried the Kingston 1 gig in the inner slot, and the outer slot empty.
and also I tried vice-versa, and the freezing is cured, which proves that they are incompatible, as you and others have said.

So I have to settle for 1 gig even tho I wanted 1.5 or 2. I have decided not to take the gamble of buying more in case what I buy is incompatible. Lenovo don't seem to be sure either!

My computer is still freezing at some points in time! :cry:

Please help me fix it!

Maybe a boot disk? I have UBCD and Memtest 1.7, I have run memtest, and there are many things on UBCD, and I have only tried a few. What should I try?

What hard drive do you have installed in the T60? You can see the model number in device manager.

If under warranty maybe it is time for the manufacturer to take a look. Perhaps the motherboard is having issues. Seems like you have tried many solutions without any resolutions.

Have you tried delete the registry value under iastorv (and/or iastor) under regedit ?
If after you have done this and it still freezes, uninstall Intel Matrix Storage Driver. It seems to do more harm than good.

Hi, I have this problem right now, and I have no idea what to do.

I have 2623ddu T60P
Had a previous HD mech. failure -- got replacement unit from Lenovo so it should be the same drive, etc.

I have the memory problem. svchost and/or waucalt or something spelled similar, along with access connections took up 100% of the cpu. lots of hanging and such. i also get an error that rescue and recovery services, as well as acrobat distiller (sometimes) have encountered problems.

Thus, I'd love to try the memory fix that was proposed, but here lies the problem.

I can't boot at the moment. I tried to boot and I get a blank, black screen, after I type my Power-On-PW.

Did restart several times and still no boot. Can't access Rescue & Recovery either.

HDD Diagnostic Tool returns Error 0000: Read Verification Failed.

How can I fix the HDD error?

And what do you all recommend I try after getting HDD fixed?
System Update for Bios first? Memory fix first?

I have my windows xp pro cd at home.

If you have access to another computer I would download the Lenovo PC Toolbox here.

Create a bootable CD and then start your T60p from this CD.

Let us know the results.

I am not going to read every post in this thread, so I don't know if you answered the following or not. After your T60 freezes, does it unfreeze after some seconds or minutes if left alone? If it does, you might look at programs such as AntiVirus software (especially), Firewalls, and any software that runs automatic updates such as Adobe Reader, Java, and Sonic Updater. I have seen a problem of an incompatibility between Adobe Update and Kerio Personal Firewall, causing a hang.

If you get any blue-screens, post the error message here. What AntiVirus software are you using? Does your AntiVirus software run periodic hard disk scans? Are you using any software firewalls besides Windows firewall? Do you have Rescue and Recovery or any other backup software making periodic backups?

Regarding Access Connections:

I had similar problems with long boot, 100% CPU use during launch of AC.

The following steps solved the problem:

1) uninstalled access connections in safe mode
2) removed references to access connections in registry, including legacy references, and IBM Access Connections
3) removed thinkpad connect utilities directory
4) removed drivers\win\accon directory
5) rebooted
6) re-installed latest thinkvantage access connections

I believe that logging option is a killer - if you find an access connection log delete it.
