Lenovo is updating their T61 page... Looks like new models are coming....

Still n/a's. I'm surprised they uploaded it like that.. In a way it's very cruel.

Two new T61 15.4 inch computers added.
One with mobile broadband and one without.

Both offer 15.4" WXGA or WXGA+.
Both offer the T7700 processor.

Neither offers PC Card with Media Card Reader.
Neither offers 800 MHz FSB ram.
Neither offers 7K200 200 gb hard drive yet.
Neither offers nVidea Quadro NVS 140M or camera.

Getting closer and closer to what I want. Waiting for WUXGA.

The R61 now comes in 15.4 inch WXGA with camera or WXGA+ without a camera in addition to the previous 14" screen offerings. You can't get the T7700 or Vista Ultimate with it but you can get the nVidea Quadro NVS 140M and you can now get four years of depot repair with ThinkPad protection.

There's even a third choice now in the Z61 series but nothing exciting.

They listed XP Pro as an option again too.

6 and 9 cell batteries, so the 6 cell might not stick out like it does with the 14.1"...

All I need is the WUXGA and graphics card upgrade and I'm good to order!

2K700 would be nice but I can add later. Same with 800 MHz FSB Ram.

I was looking for Blu-Ray on the R61. I didn't see it.

what sucks is with the prices on their currently I would have saved another 3-400 bucks on the 5/28 order!! dammit!! lol (that is of course with the memorial day 25% off)

nevermind, that IS the sale price.. I'm still cheaper! phew for a little while anyway..

of course, if we wait it out a while, the 4th of July sale will be coming up.

I saw the new offerings also, but eagerly awaiting R or T with Blu-ray before I jump in.

Anyone know when that will be?

Lenovo says it won't be out until late July.

These video options are both confusing and irritating. I found this extremely useful:

• 14.1" TFT XGA (1024x768)
• 14.1" TFT SXGA+ (1400x1050)
• 15" TFT XGA (1024x768)
• 15" IPS TFT SXGA+ (1400x1050)
• 15.4" TFT WXGA (1280x800)
• 15.4" TFT WSXGA+ (1680x1050)

Other commonly used acronyms:
• WXGA: Widescreen XGA
• WSXGA+: Wide Super XGA
• WUXGA: Wide Ultra eXtended Graphics Array
• SXGA: Super eXtended Graphics Array
• UltraLight XGA TFT: Ultra Thin Screen w/ Standard Extended Graphics Array
• UltraView + EasyTouch XGA TFT: Widescreen Touch Screen w/ Standard Extended Graphics Array

Clearly, only a blind person would not want either SXGA+ or WSXGA+. That said, what are the specs on the WUXGA that you are holding out for that seem of interest?

Second question: is it possible to get a camera on ANY 15.4" TFT WSXGA+ (1680x1050) lenovo laptop???

WUXGA = 1920×1200

I don't see no T61s dudes. Just the Centrino-Pro refreshes.

Well, I am looking at a 1680x1050 15.4" display now. Unlike with desktop monitors, laptops monitors are always at the same length to the eye. And I don't think the eye can distinguish much more detail than this (332mm/1680pixels=0.20mm/pixel dot pitch) unless you are really close to the screen. The WUXGA above @ 15.4"= is a 332mm/1920pixels=0.173mm/pixel dot pitch and would probably appear the same to the average eye as the 0.20mm dot pitch.

By the way, I am surprised by the number of idiots who have posted about issues with small fonts and low dot pitches. People are using a computer and can't adjust font sizes? Goodness. Surely, there are ditches to be dug.

I've used 1600 x 1200 for six years first with an A21p and then with an R50p. I used 1920 x 1200 for about three months with the Z61p I recently returned. The R50p has an IPS screen.

For the medical records program I use all day-every day, 1200 vertical lets me see a "full page" of a "form" that later prints to an 8.5" x 11" paper page (when necessary).

My co-workers use 1024 x 768 on the same software and see 1/2 a form at a time. They have to scroll to see a full page.

I prefer the 1600 x 1200 or 1920 x 1200. I'm using that resolution right now.

Eyes vary. Preferences vary. I WANT 1920 x 1200 and I perceive that I "need" it.

Font sizes are adjustable in Windows, but when browsing online or when using certain programs, many times the font size chosen in Windows has no effect. When the text is a graphic as in certain webpages, Windows font sizes have no effect.

I have an old 19" 4:3 Sony CRT and love the look of 1600x1200. Which T61 widescreen would give me the same size fonts, etc., or the same look as what I have now? Thanks

1600x1200 on a 19" monitor has a pixel density of 105.3 dots per inch. The closest density is the 14.1" WS T61 with WXGA, which is 107 dots per inch.

Exactly, the guy has two thinkpads perhaps because he doesn't know how to change resolution and fonts. I have a 1680x1050 display but right now I am viewing this in lovely dithered 1280x800 to spite you. I use the the CATALYST Control Center to do this but you could use windows to toggle resolutions as well. I can even run old dos programs at their original resolution if I feel like it. But if you are stuck with a 1280x720 display you'll never experience the clarity of 1680x1050 and won't miss it in your ignorance either.

I would argue that this calculation is totally inapplicable, since it ignores the fact that laptop displays are about 1/2 the distance to the eye as monitors. Just my opinion.

Please don't call people idiots. And FWIW it is difficult to get fonts and icons and everything perfect with less than native resolution.
Supposedley Vista is better at this but I have not tried it yet.

Mike, I finally had a chance to try Vista RC2 on my SXGA+ T60. I compared the quality of the display at the native res and at XGA, and it still gets quite fuzzy at XGA, but it does seem slightly better than in XP.

I have been so wrapped up with 2003 server lately that i have not had a chance to try that on my machine. So it really isn't that big an improvement over XP Oh well I like XGA and SXGA+ so I'm happy Like SXGA+ a little better though.

Under Vista, the fonts scale quite nicely, but the icons don't scale nearly as well. The jagged edges of desktop icons are very obvious when you up the DPI to 120%.

Things scale quite nicely in X too....ah, the beauty of SVGs.
