T61 Problems

I have two problems with my T61, model number 7664-17U.

1. There is serious battery drainage when suspending the laptop. In a matter of 4.5 hours, I lost more than 70% of my battery charge.

2. When docked to an advanced dock, it is not recognizing that there is an external monitor so I continually have to change the display settings (resolution) whenever I dock the laptop. If I go into the presentation settings FN-7, it tells me I do not have an external monitor connected.

I consider both of these very serious issues for a business laptop. I'm placing a call to tech support today and will apprise you of their response.

I called Lenovo this morning and after a little bit of a run-around, I discovered that they don't have a clue about my issues.

Talk to two different departments... hardware support and software support. The hardware support guy indicated I had to talk to software support, then when I got transferred to the software support tech, he said my battery issue should have been handled by hardware support.

The buy in hardware support tried to blame Vista. I told him I'm running a T60 with Vista and I don't experience any of the battery drain like the T61 does. Then he told me it was probably a Vista issue and transferred me to software support.

Great...

Anyhow, he decided to send me a new battery because he had no information on any issues.

He did a little checking on the external LCD issue, but couldn't find anything and gave me a case # to refer to if it continue.

He asked me to check the version of my Presentation Manager thinking there would be a new version, but he couldn't tell me how to determine the version #. I told him I had ran System Update and it didn't find any later versions for it. He was basically clueless on how to resolve.

Anyhow, a new battery is on the way so we'll see if that fixes anything.

It's great to know that tech support is still such a crap shoot.

Someone posted that the Presentation manager might be having conflicts with Vista's own display management software. Do a search on this forum.
