T61 and Verizon Broadband Access via USB modem

#1 Post by jjfcpa » Fri Jun 01, 2007 11:18 am

I just wanted to post a message and let everyone know that I installed the Verizon USB720 modem in my T61 today and it worked flawlessly.

I used an expresscard 34 Verizon modem with my Macbook Pro, but since the T61 doesn't have a expresscard 34 slot, I swapped with my son who had the USB 720 modem.

The nice thing about purchasing the USB modem, is you can basically use it with any computer you have. You only need to install the VZAccess software application from Verizon and it allows you to have EV-DO access on all your laptops. This makes more sense than purchasing the EV-DO modem with the laptop.

The USB modem can't be plugged into the laptop directly because it's kind of shaped like a cell phone, but it comes with a 10 inch USB extender cable that you can plug into the laptop and then into the modem. Very nice.

One of the neat features of the VZAccess software is that you can send a text message via the modem AND you can type it using your keyboard instead of trying to use your phone.

I'm not certain, but I believe that Ex34 cards will work in Ex54 slots (what's on the T6x), just not the other way around.
T'Pad 600e, 770x, A20p, A21p, A30p, A31p (2653-H3U), T43p (2668-Q2U) & T60p (2623-DDU)...it's an addiction.
