Very low volume on T60P

I have a new 2623DDU and I just discovered that the sound volume on the speakers is very low.
Any ideas. I have everything turned up to max. On my others, T30 and T43 there is plenty of volume.

Which OS?
Anyways, make sure the physical (near thinkvantage blue button) and virtual (Windows bar) buttons are turned to maximum.

Both are full maximum and it is barely audible.
I will, when I have time, look inside and be sure the cables are connected. Maybe there is a hardware issue, but I sure hope not as I have change the CPU and that would make it awkward to file a warranty claim.

Try plugging in some headphones. Plug and unplug several times and see if the volume ever gets better. A poor connection on the contacts in the headphone jack could cause low volume out of the laptop speakers.

All of the relatively modern Thinkpads (T60, X60s, T43, R50p, X40,) that I've used have pretty weak speakers.

I have a T43P and it is plenty loud. That is what I am used to.

I'm running Vista on a T60p and noticed the same thing. I fixed it by not loading the SoundMax app and just letting Windows detect the device. Night and day.

Could you elaborate? I'm also not at all happy with the max volume on the speakers -- and unpleasantly surprised. What does Windows detect the device as? If I remove the SoundMax app and uninstall the drivers, Windows just detects it as a Soundmax device and loads the SoundMax drivers... no difference.
