T61: is it the coolest running ThinkPad ever?
Greetings!
I'm sorry for duplicating my message in separate threads. But i do believe that I'll get response here much quicker.
Month ago I bought T60 and unfortunately I have the same fan noise problem as everyone else. But after some research on the web I found that Lenovo announced that new T61 model has improved cooling system. So, currently I'm trying to figure out is it worth to sell my T60 and switch to T61 laptop.
Guys, owners of T61, could You please post here output from TP Fan Controller to find out is this model has improved cooling system.
For those, how are interested in reviews I mentioned, here they are:
http://www.notebookreview.com/default.a ... =T61andR61
http://www.notebookreview.com/default.a ... inkPad+T61
In the last review they mentioned the following:
Notebook Temperature when Idling Temp. After running 3DMark05
ThinkPad T43 (2.0GHz Pentium M) 57C 68C
ThinkPad T61 (2.0GHz Core 2 Duo) 42C 50C
Is it true? DOes the fan noise problem really solved? Can anyone give real temparatures and fan speed in RPM while intensively using it?
Thanks in advance.

I checked a T61 yesterday, and I'll confirm that it runs really cool. This the BEST part of the T61 design IMHO. The fan does keep running most of the time, but you DON'T hear it at all. Just air coming out of the vents, and the temps don't go beying 40C even with intensive programs running. I used NHC, so no output like TPFanControl, but I tell you, this is teh cooleest thinkpad I have seen.
Now: T60 2613-EKU | T23 2647-9NU | 600X 2645-9FU | HP 100LX
Past: X31 2673-Y13 | T41 2374-3HU | T22 2647-AEU
Rules of the road

I believe it's more interesting how the T61 temperatures are on the outer sides (bottom and top) then inside between the CPU core sensors etc.
So for outer side temps of a TP T61 with...
- Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T7300 2.00 GHz
- Nvidia Quadro NVS 140M GPU
...look at this image here:
http://www.notebookjournal.de/storage/s ... 3d3cba4210
Top side = max. 31°C
Bottom side = max. 37°C
The Loudness measurings in the above review have been:
On Heavy Load Ac/Dc = 30 dB(A)
Normal load (idle) = 25 dB(A)
Normal load when on battery power saving mode = 24 dB(A)

I think the bottom temp is still inside good parameters for when the T61 is under heavy load. However, maybe it's due to the additional vents at the bottom side of the T61, so that some of the heat will possibly also additionally exhaust this way instead of just intake air (but I'am not sure for this or if this might be the case at all).
Related to the sound, 30 dB(A) = ~ 0,3 sone, that's pretty quiet and a very good value for a notebook under heavy load.
