Bad biometric finger scanner?

#1 Post by HDgirlytech » Tue Jun 05, 2007 8:09 am

So we love the new T60 with the finger scanner instead of having to remember one of many many passwords. This laptop was setup and working properly until it started to fail the login. We scan a finger and it says failed. We login normally, try enrolling fingers and on the third scan it says "Consolidation failed". We have even updated to the Control Center Version 4.23 and still fails. Not just one person has tried to enroll a finger on this machine, and to no avail. Could the scanner be damaged? or would it be something in the software. I have uninstalled the scanner and the drivers, reinstalled, still the same thing. I would like to know if someone has seen this issue or if it has been resolved. The laptop is only a month old. :( oh! In the event viewer there was an entry stating that an intruder was detected, but I don't think this could stop the scanner from working completely.

This might help you furtur with your diagnostic.

go to control panel, switch to classic view, double click on "Fingerprint Sensor" select finger test, now swipe your finger, the print of your finger will be shown in that little box, now see if it looks anything like a finger print. if it doesn't then your sensor is probably faulty.

Thank you for the reply!!! :P I actually already did this. The finger print does show up but has lots of horizontal lines going through it, I ignore if this is normal as I have not tried this on another laptop to see how the fingerprint comes out there. :( I will see if I can find a T60 here and test it. Yes, I think the scanner may be faulty, just not sure what caused it.
