Thinkpad T61 - HD and Graphic Card

#1 Post by White O » Thu Jun 07, 2007 11:53 am

Hi all !

I would like to buy a Thinkpad T61 :

Core2duo 7300 2ghz
1 go DDR2 PC5300
HD 120Go 5400
Nvidia Quadro NVS140M 128mo or Geforce 7300 128mo
3 years of warranty

But I have some questions...

1/ Can I replace the internal HD without breaking the warranty ?
2/ Can I put Hitachi or Segeate 7200 tours HD (for internal and Ultrabay Slim) ?
3/ What card is better between Quadro NVS140M 128mo and Geforce 7300 128mo ?

Thanks !

There is no Thinkpad with NVIDIA 7300.
Even if it does, 140M is still much better.
Hard drive are swappable and it does not void the warranty.

That seems likely a mistake. Yes you can put the Hitachi or Seagate in the ultrabay as long as you have the right connector.

Which hard drives can we use?

Hi,

I've got a T43p, and I'm waiting to see what the T61p's look like. When I wanted to upgrade the internal hard drive on my T43p, I had lots of problems, and finally found a post somewhere saying that only ThinkPad-approved HDD's would work, so I couldn't just go out and get, for example, a capacious Seagate and put it in my TP.

Is that not true any longer?

It may be true for Thinkpad with Active Protection (AP) because AP is picky on Hard drive. I have only tested on Thinkpad without AP so I don't know.

The T43 is a special case, because it uses a SATA-PATA-Bridge and the Firmware for the drive has to be tested for compatibility by Lenovo. T6x uses native SATA, so there is no problem.
