Need help with Atheros wi-fi drivers (T60) and latest update

#1 Post by twister » Sat Jun 09, 2007 12:25 pm

I haven't checked updates through System Update in awhile, until a few days ago. I've seen they posted update for a/b/g/n card. I had eveything running smoothly on my system for the last 5-6 month with DLink D655 N-router and my Atheros card. The description of the new driver said "no fixes, no changes, support for R61/T61", so I thought its going to be harmless. Well, after the install I am having a ton of problems. Wi-fi card sees the router at 100% of power, but the connection periodically gets disconnected and I have to re-connect it back. Extremely annoying. I called Lenovo tech suppor, what a joke!!! They have no idea and recommend using WinXP system restore to fix the problem. I'm aware of that infamous power-safe problem, and have both power-save modes turned OFF on wireless and wired ethernet cards.

So, first of all, one questions is if anybody else having an issues with the latest update and their Atheros wi-fi?

Second question, the latest driver is 6.0.3.62 (released on April 27, 2007). The only other previous driver I have as a back up is 6.0.2.38 (relesed on October 5, 2006). Where there any other a/b/g/n card updates in between? If so, can you PLEASE give me a link to download that driver because *idiots* at Lenovo tech support have no idea. I'm wasting my time guiding them through and explaining basic stuff they should be aware of. That support is pointless you can get get a faster resolution here in the forum.

At this moment, I went back to the old 6.0.2.38 driver and testing it right now to see how its going to work. But for some reason I'm thinking there was another update earlier in 2007. Any help is appreciated!!!!!!!

On another forum a member experienced a similar problem to yours. He solved the problem by going back to an earlier version of the Atheros driver.

Well, going back to previous version didn't solve my problem, until I also went back to the previous firmware version of my DIR-655 router. Apparently, something is fishy with all the latest "n" updates and their reference to v2.0 of N-draft. I suspect its being a problem. As I said in the other forum, I learned my lesson about "if its ain't broken, don't fix it".

Do you have a link to another forum's thread? I still need to figure out what is the previous driver version for Atheros, because I went back to the version from October of last year and not sure if there is another intermediate version.

Hi,

I am in same situation as you.

Everything was working fine until I upgraded the drivers, and now frequent disconnects.

Links will be good or simple going back to previous drivers will be great.

Take a look in the subfolders of C:\IBMTOOLS\drivers\ for the Atheros driver that came with the factory installed software. On my T42, that subfolder is named: C:\IBMTOOLS\drivers\WLLANATH\. Yours might have a different name.
