Is your T61 base uneven?

My T61 sits a bit unevenly. It rocks a little from the top left to bottom right corner.

The machine's base on left side closest to user is slightly bent downwards..so the right side rubber leg closest to user does not touch the table..off by 2mm.

Does anyone else have this issue?

This + BSOD / iaStor issue has me seriously considering sending this puppy packing back to Lenovo for a refund..disappointed.

I thought of the same for my T60p, but it turned out that the table I used it on was uneven.

It has 4 contact points and the case doesn't flex, so if the table is uneven it doesn't seat properly and discomfort appears. The rollcage is made of magnesium and it is rigid, the back case has lots of screws for inner components that go through it, basically unless the rollcage is bent somehow it should be perfectly flat. The magnesium rollcage is manufactured by casting, during the cooling or tempering process it could bend but I guess that they check for such issues.

We like rigid laptops but sometimes this can turn into an "issue". Actually it happens so often, especially with poor quality tables, so good quality must be seated on top quality.

YES, I have the exact same problem. It is not an inferior table surface as Vali suggests, it does the rocking from rear left to front right no matter what table it is put on. I am becoming quite annoyed with it and not sure what to do. I guess I may call Lenovo, though I'm sure it would mean sending it back and that would not be good.

You know, I think our T61's might be designed to compensate for slight flex like that. I never noticed anything before, but now that you mention it, the front right of my machine is slightly more elevated than the rest. The rubber feet on my machine are like little speed bumps. On the other three feet, the whole bump is in contact with the table, yet on the front right, only the very top of the bump is in contact. It is enough so that I am not able to slide a piece of paper under the foot, however.

I can press down on the front right, and the rest of the rubber foot comes in contact with the table. The rest of the machine does not tilt in response, however.

I wonder if it is because my machine lacks the fingerprint reader. It takes minimal pressure to push the foot down, maybe a few ounces..

In your case, if your whole machine is rocking back and forth, it sounds like there's some serious warping of the body. Regardless of the rocking, that may be a sign of internal damage? during shipment perhaps? I'd try to get a replacement if possible : /

My T61 does that too. The front right is a bit elevated.

I've replaced it's keyboard. This meant removing the palm rest also. I tried to be gentle when tightening the screws.

Could this be caused by that?

yes, mine does not sit firmly either... but when on the base I use external keyboard, mouse and monitor so I mainly do not care about this as long as it works and has normal contact...

update: yesterday I've checked the issue - and "discovered" a ... T-shaped button underneath of the base, my 2 yo son must put it there.

Now my base is less shaky and no elevations! LOL! Sorry for my previous comment.

I do not use the base for typing anyway so no comments if it's convenient in that sense.
