Hi all,

Just received a brand new T60, and have started setting it up for the in-laws. I happen to know they like DiskeeperLite, which is why I didn't uninstall it immediately...

How in the heck can I get it to not show up in the system tray?? I've already done start->run->msconfig->startup and disabled "DkIcon," (which launches from the Diskeeper folder) to no effect. The only way I've gotten it to stop appearing is to disable the service, but then of course... you can't use Diskeeper.

I'm tempted to just uninstall the entire app out of frustration! But now I want to get to the bottom of this.

(on a related topic... How much of a drop-off is there if you just use the built-in Windows defrag utility?)

my best efforts have failed on this one too. It seems from my understanding, that the icon IS directly tied with the actual application, and not just an system tray thing. I tried msconfig, and even the registry, but it reappears. Also, even if you set it to manual in the services.msc screen, it wont startup correctly when trying to run a defrag...it pretty much has to be "automatic startup" if you want to defrag your hd.

But, as a consolation, it is faster than the windows defrag program...though with dual core computers easily capable of multitasking, Im not sure if this is really that much useful anymore.

if you didn't know already, diskkeeper can be disabled (on the programs menu) and enabled manually. this is how i manage.

By any chance have you tried the following? Right-click on the Taskbar, choose Properties, have the Hide inactive icons box checked. Then go to Customize... click on the DiskeeperLite icon and set to Always Hide, then click on OK and OK.

Might that be a 'feature' of regular Diskeeper? Remember, I'm using the pre-loaded Diskeeper Lite: Under programs->Diskeeper Corporation, there isn't that option (only 2 choices: Run DKLite, or upgrade to diskeeper).

Gom, I actually did do that-- the result is what I'm going with now, but still isn't great: The "show hidden icons" arrow appears, and indeed the DKLite icon is not visible, but... if you hit the arrow it's there (and you're really just replacing the DKLite icon with the arrow).

I think Ducky is right, and after reading Jkahng's reply, I have to believe it's b/c of the free, "lite" nature of the program.

You don't get something for nothing, as they say.

I tried to make it hide as well without the use of "Hide inactive icons" but had no luck. Since it was not the full version so I went ahead and uninstalled it and moved on to a Windows default defrag. feature.
