T60 docking station issues

We are having problems with docking and undocking for some of our users.

We have two types of mini docks here. Type 2505 and Type 2504.

The 2504 has LED's that indicate when you can dock or undock the laptop, and are working like a champ when Fn+F9 is pressed before undocking.

The 2505 has no LED's to indicate when to dock/undock and Fn+F9 detects no dock to undock from. When users undock from the 2505 docks they have massive lockup/performance issues.

So far the only work around for this is to suspend the laptop before undocking, and even this on occasion has failed to stop the lockup/performance issues.

We are aware of the ESD issue and have deployed kits to all docks so this is not the cause.

Any ideas or information on this issue would be appreciated. I am hoping IBM is willing to buy back all of the2505 and exchange them for 2504 docks for our users.

Hi - I have T60 as per signature. And two 2505 replicators - one at home and one in the office. I hot dock and un-dock all the time. No problems at all (save this problem http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=41425) - I'm running Xp on a domain - which does have its problems. But no lock ups or blue screens or anything like that.

I am also having problems with my docking station. I have a T60 and use the 2505. I hibernate the laptop before I dock it, and it will sometimes work flawlessly, and other times it will turn the PC off and I have to turn it back on. This also happens when I undock. If I do not hibernate it, then it will turn the laptop off every time i undock. If I hibernate it, most of the time it will keep it in hibernate mode and I undock it just fine.

Any idea why this is happening? I also get problems when I plug in certain USB devices. Sometimes I think the board has issues...

Hey guys,

I just registered yesterday. I think I can help with this issue though - Lenovo says that the docks can cause an electrostatic discharge due to the metal hooks. See here:

Thanks mt256, that earns a sticky for this thread (for a while at least).

Cheers,

I too have been having this issue for the last few months on advanced mini-docks and I contacted Lenovo for the field kit 42W3219. I installed 1 kit on each, but this fix has not solved the issue as I am still experiencing the lockups/shutdowns when hot-docking or undocking. There is more to this issue than electrostatic discharge i'm afraid.
