What is the practical difference between a T61 and R61?

On Lenovo.com I just configured a T61 and R61 identically, and the R61 comes in about $40 cheaper, and a fraction of a pound heavier.

But otherwise, I don't see what makes these two product lines materially different.

Can anyone shed some light?

The R61 is a little heavier, a little thicker, uses a thicker and more commonly available optical drive and usually has firewire where the T61 is thinner, lighter and uses a thinner and less common optical drive.
The differences between the T and R series are fading. Just like the price difference. There used to be more of a difference in price than $40.00.

True for R61 14.1'' WS. However firewire port will be an available option on 15.4'' model.

R61 won't have a WWAN option.

T61 has Centrino Pro, R61 does not. The R61 uses Ultrabay Enhanced, while T61 uses Ultrabay Slim.

Someone also said the R51 has a thinner composite material for the chassis, and possibly a different palmrest coating. Haven't seen any others say the same yet, though.
