I've been looking all over the place and still for some reason cannot find the simplest little detail... Does the T60 come with ATA or SATA hard drives? I'm getting a T60p and need the tiny slow 5400rpm drive out of there asap.

I believe the new T60/T60p come with a SATA harddrive.

You can goto the Accessories & upgrades part of lenovo.com and input your model number then you will find out which hard drive is good for your thinkpad. they will specify SATA or ATA

definitely SATA, ATA or PATA is long gone from the thinkpad line. Even the Thinkpad T43 had SATA but used a bridge to connect to PATA drives.

5400RPM drives are far from slow, especially the newer versions. There's not as big a difference moving to 7200RPM as many expect. 5400RPM drives are also (for the moment at least) available in larger capacities, and are more economical both in price and power consumption (not to mention usually cooler & quieter). Do you really need 7200RPM?

I absolutely agree. A 5400 RPM drive is actually very good, infact generates less heat and is less noisy. Unless you want to get every ounce of performance from your machine, get a 5400 RPM drive and invest the rest in RAM, or save it up for the next thinkpad :D

I second gator's advice.

In that case, I will not buy a 7200rpm drive at the moment and look further in the performance difference, thanks for the advice.

I was looking for the 160gb 7200rpm drive with the perpendicular recording thing that makes it fast. Haven't been able to find it.
