SD card slot in T61?

I try to config a T61 15.4" and I really need a SD card slot.
I know that media card slot can take SD card, however, it is no longer an option now.
It only has :
1. PC Card Slot & Express Card Slot
2. PC Card Slot & Smart Card Slot
My question is: What formats of memory card does option 2 supports?
Thanks a lot!

I do not think that word means what you think it means...

sorry, that doesn't really fit, but I couldn't resist. Anyway, this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smart_card is a smart card.

So, to answer your question directly, what memory card formats does option 2 support?

None.

let me add some more questions here :)

The T61 they sell here as a Topseller, has no media-card reader or a CardBus either. The question is, can i purchase the card reader or Cardbus reader and install it myself later?

Go with the Expresscardslot. You can buy yourself a Expresscard-Cardreader and have more flexibility.

The PC Card slot is CardBus.

For the most flexibility, you should probably get a CardBus CF card reader and an ExpressCard multi-card reader like the previous post.
:D

speaking of which, anyone have any good recommendations for an expresscard or pccard multi-card reader? All the cheap commercial one's I see are usually USB.

APIOTEK has some good ones. Some reviews I found: 18-in-1 ExpressCard reader and CompactFlash ExpressCard reader.

The 18-in-1 version is new and supports SDHC. They also make a dual slot "18-in-2" ExpressCard reader.

sorry, my bad! What i meant is that the T61 i m looking at, has no ExpressCard slot! or then again i might be wrong.

please have a look here:
http://www5.pc.ibm.com/europe/products. ... enDocument

Now if it DOESN'T have a ExpressCard slot, can i add one myself ?

It doesn't specifically say that it has ExpressCard, but it also doesn't say whether it has a media slot or smart card reader, so my guess is that it has the ExpressCard slot.

Well, there are only three options:

1 - PC Card + ExpressCard
2 - PC Card + media slot
3 - PC Card + smart card

So...

Thanks FRiC, but can it be possible that it has neither or the three?
Coz usually in the lenovo tech-specifications page it usually mentions them, but not for this one.

I d be dissapointed to go buy one and discover it has neither of the three (ExpressCard / Media Card Reader / SmartCard)

Can you call someone to find out? I noticed the lack of mentioning of the slots in the support page as well. The hardware maintenance manual only lists the three types I posted previously, but you never know... (where I live, they only sell the PC Card + media slot type.)

spoke with the dealer here, they don't have an open unit, but he said it has for sure PCMCIA slot, so... who knows?

Can it be possible this T61 has only PCMCIA slot ?

If you look at the Tabook, all of the T61's have a PC Cardbus slot. Some of the T61's also have a ExpressCard slot. Other T61's have a Smart Card Reader.
Tabook wrote:PC Card Std slot | One Type I or Type II slot, CardBus 32-bit
ExpressCard slot | None
Smart Card Read | Smart Card Reader
Multicard Reader | None
Tabook wrote:PC Card Std slot | One Type I or Type II slot, CardBus 32-bit
ExpressCard slot | [/54] One ExpressCard/34 or ExpressCard/54, PCI Express x1 or USB 2.0
Smart Card Read | None
Multicard Reader | None
EDIT: Actually, the OP basically said the same thing in his original post.

Neither option supports memory cards... The second option sounds like it has a smart card reader inside the express card slot. This kind of reader is for specially designed cards used for encryption and security, especially for large corporations. So unless you need this kind of capability, go with the first option.

Put on the breaks people! The original post is inquiring about T61 15.4".

The T61 has a memory card slot built in to the front. It's not an option; it comes standard. Every T61 15.4" will have a 4-in-1 memory card slot.

The other options are:
PC Card & Express Card slots
or
PC Card & Smart Card slots

What most everyone will want to pick is the PC Card & Express Card slots option. A smart card is technology that the average user in the U.S. doesn't use for personal use at this time.

If you want to learn more about smart cards read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smart_card

True enough. I did not notice the other group of T61's when I looked at the tabook, as they had some T60's in between.

According to the tabook, all the 15.4" ws T61's have the memory card reader built in as you correctly pointed out. However only some of the GMA 14.1" ws T61's, and none of the NVidea 14.1" ws T61's, and none of the 14.1" 4:3 T61's have the memory card reader.
