T61 w/ clean XP image and fingerprint reader...

Howdy all!

Finally got my new T61 purring on XP Pro and about have everything done/working except the fingerprint reader. I noticed that IBM has no software for the T61 on XP, just Vista. Has anyone been successful in getting this working on XP(will any other versions work..)? If so any insight would be much appreciated.

I have contemplated wiping my hard drive and then reinstalling XP, then decided to leave Vista for now. I really want to learn Vista on a Thinkpad that can handle it, since my R40 doesn't quite cut it.

I have Vista running on a shuttle home theatre PC and it works well for that, but is very hardware intensive and still not stable in my opinion.

This thinkpad is for my business and all my software is for XP, so it's a no brainer. I bought a 7200rpm 100gb Momentus and yanked out the factory HDD, so I still have Vista on that:)

Love to hear if anyone has the fingerprint reader on clean XP image.

shouldn't be that hard, i installed drivers for my Thinkpad T42 on a clean install of Vista. I had to get the drivers from uptek since IBM doesn't have any Vista compatible ones just yet. The ones i see are for XP and lower.

there is the page for alot of machines, just doesn't say T42

Thanks for the link SHoTTa35! Yeah i ran across that, just didn't know if it would work or cause issues since it's not specified for the t61, but I've made a full image with Acronis of what I have now so I can "mess" around now.

Well it works so far although their website does not list the T61. No issues so far, if I start experiencing problems i will definately post them. Thanks!

2nd day running with 5.6 fingerprint reader with no issues or "glitches".


Very please with my T61 so far after the XP install. The fastest of the bunch so far out of my past thinkpads...T42p and T30. Glad to see quality has not declined as rumors suggested.

Only complaint so far is max speaker volume, would like it to be a bit louder, but it's fine when I'm sitting in front of it.
