ordered Vista Premium, slip says Basic, Got Premium, Bad?

#1 Post by rukiri » Fri Jun 15, 2007 12:02 pm

So I ordered my machine with Vista Premium, and it came with Vista premium..

But the packaging slip that came with my machine says Basic, the sticker on the box says Basic, and the sticker on my machine says Basic..

If I need to send the machine in for service or something, will they wonder why I have premium instead of Basic? Is there any cause for me to worry?

I'd only be concerned for resale purposes. Have them provide you with a correct slip so that you can sleep better at night.

I always remove my hard drive before sending it for warranty work.

This is common confusion. The "Windows Vista Basic" sticker indicates the capability of the hardware, it has nothing to do with the edition of Windows you bought.

Are you talking about the COA sticker on the bottom? Mine says Windows Vista Ultimate and that is what it is.

So what does the COA sticker say? If it says Premium, you are good to go.

Sorry, I should clarify so this thread can end. My COA sticker does say Premium, it's just all the packing labes, and the sticker on the palmrest that say Basic. Actually, part of my concern was that there's a tear in the COA sticker. The cd-key is fine, but half of the right side of the sticker is missing.

Anyway, I'm not really worried about it anymore. You're right, as long as the COA is correct, I'm good to go.

Thanks guys : )

The rip in the middle of COA is a method of ensuring that the license doesn't get transferred from one laptop to another.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
With the man who takes me from my horse, and leads me to a bar."
The man who took her off her steed, and stood her to a beer,
Were a bleary-eyed Surveyor and a DRUNKEN ENGINEER.

When your computer boots up and takes you to the Vista welcome screen, it should say if it's home premium or basic.
