15" T60 with GMA950 and Flexview UXGA
If the title seems impossible, don't be fooled.
To start off I've had a 14.1" T60P for the a couple of months now and I loved everything about that system except two problems: the heat and the noise, both due to the discrete graphics and (lack of) cooling solution employed in the T60 series.
So I started looking for a new laptop with integrated graphics but a high resolution screen, Lo and behold, this thing grabbed my attention.

Everybody has been raving about the Flexview IPS UXGA on the T-Series laptops, so I had to try it out.
The parts:
15" Flexview UXGA LCD (luckily it came with EVERYTHING)
A 15" T60 (model 1953-DAU)
2GB of PC2-5300 RAM
All of the parts arrived this morning and I was able to assemble it and test it out. It went together really easily, took probably less than 10 minutes to assemble. My preliminary thoughts are that:
1) the screen is amazing, there is a dramatic difference between normal 14.1" Thinkpad LCD's and the 15" IPS Flexview
2) the performance is very good, I don't plan on playing any demanding games, the FireGL V5200 can't play the newest games anyway (not enough horsepower or not without overheating and freezing), and for coding the extra screen real estate is fantastic
3) the 15" form-factor is much much bigger than the 14.1" form-factor and a lot less portable.
4) The new 15" T60 came with a NMB keyboard, it feels a little different from the ALPS keyboard that I used on my T60P, can't decide though if different is better or worse.
I'll have more thoughts on the new build and pictures as I get to spend more time with it.

I used a single phillips head screw driver to do the entire job, the instructions are available here:furrycute wrote:What tools do you need to swap the LCD screen? Are there any instructions online?
