T61 with nVidia and XP Professional

#1 Post by shahbazi » Sun Jun 17, 2007 11:46 pm

On lenovoblogs.com they cited one of the reasons for the delay in some of their shipments
is the problems with nVidia dedicated graphics and the Windows XP OS.
I was wondering if I got a T61 with nVidia dedicated graphics and Windows Vista Buisness,
but decided Vista wasn't for me... would I have trouble rolling back to Windows XP?

I believe it can be done. The support site has a driver for the NVidia card for XP. Some of the other features are not available though like the fingerprint scanner. Make sure to examine the drivers and downloads to ensure all the drivers that you deem necessary are available.

Definately possible. I did this last week with a 7764-17U. I upgraded the HDD and installed a clean copy of XP pro on. IBM had XP drivers for the Nvidia video card and they workded just fine.

Yep, i just decided that Vista isn't for me either (yet)

My friends, I'll need your knowledge here:
Is the O/S (Vista) RECOVERY DISKS hidden inside the secret IBM partition in the hard disk?

I ask so incase i want to go back to Vista one day, i ll just press the blue button and get Vista Business like day one.

At least that's how it used to be at my old T41.
There was an option in BIOS that you could hide or show the hidden OS Recovery partition.

I d really appreciate if somebody would share his experience.
I really need to install XP but i don't want to lose my Vista either :?

I would create a set of recovery discs. That is what I did. Then you can do what ever you want and always have the option to go back.

Under ThinkVantage, there is an option called"Create Recovery Media". At the bottom of the dialog box there is a section called "Recovery Discs", Select the radio button to create the recovery discs.
