well if you want my opinion, i think the Z61t is the most beautiful Thinkpad i have ever laid eyes on... as sexy as a machine can get.
Maybe the best looking laptop ever made..

It's metal cover and sturdiness makes it looks like those premium-series Nokia phones 8800 or the new glass model..
T21 (Sold)
T40 (Sold)
T41 (best machine i ever had, Sold)
Toshiba Satellite (what a mistake, sold)
Thinkpad Z61t (brilliant machine, went to my father)
Got my T61 :)

I looked at the "naked" pictures and I can say that the northbridge + GPU copper plate is greater than the one in T60.
Also it is possible to notice that the heatpipes are better spaced and the GPU one is a bit longer, I mean that it seems to better cover the length of the copper plate.
The mount is also different to better accomodate the longer heatpipe.

Edit:
For the T61 the heatpipe for the GPU stays clear from CPU copper pad. The functional principle behind heatpipe is to transport heat from the greater temperature point to a lower temperature point trying to get both ends of the heatpipe at same temperatures. I wonder if between the ends there is another hot point isn't the heatpipe transporting heat between the 2 hot points for the GPU and running between a hot point and a cold point for the CPU?

I wonder if it is possible to "port" one of these to the T60.

Is it possible to get better pictures, maybe someone who's upgrading the RAM and has a decent camera.

Thank you,
v.

:::

This post make me like my Z60t 14" more!
I don't really need super power on the road!
Love the Z60t 's lighter, smaller, slimmer.....!
Also, 4-5hrs of 7Cell life after tune....!

You are so right, not only in the pics, in all aspects of design and looks the Z61t beats the T61. It's funny that both are quiet under high-performance mode! Heat-wise too!

After a month living with both babies, I can safely say that in performance, there is no noticeable difference in business-enviroment programs. Both run XP Pro, Office, my Oracle applications just fine.

Main differences:

- the T61 screen has a much brighter (which is nice, but also tiring if you work long hours infront of the 14.1" screen at night at home)

- Ram limitation, Z61 can see 3gigs (i use 2gb's now) white T61 can see 4gigs (i use 2gb there too)

- GPU, if you like to play games every-now-and-then, the Nvidia on my T61 can handle Battlefield2 in 1280x1024 quite well, while the i950 can't do much. But in movies, avi's, dvd's and general apps, they perform the same.

IMHO, they should have used the Z61t design for the T61.
The Z61t is very stylish (very nice edges) while keeping the Thinkpad logic, while the T61 is just too bulky and kinda clumsy (specially the off-centered screen)

(full disclosure: i own a z61t)

i prefer the z61t, much so over the T61 EXCEPT for the fact that it's curved and lacks the traditional right angles of the Thinkpads.

the first comparison picture really captures what i'm talking about.
