Does DirectX interfere with my t60p OpenGL?

#1 Post by fiebigc » Wed Jun 20, 2007 1:39 am

This may demonstrate a fundamental lack of understanding on my part but does installing DirectX interfere with my t60p OpenGL? I primarily use my t60p for Pro/Engineer CAD work but I wouldn't mind playing a few games here and there. I haven't tried any yet but I'm going to. Also do I have to install DirectX to play most games? Thanks.

If you don't have windows update, you perhaps have to donwnload the last version of DirectX 9 under Windows XP or DirectX 10 under Vista. Most time, a recent copy of DirectX is aviable on the CD or DVD of the game. Also take care to update your graphic driver from Lenovo website.

fiebigc - no, they don't interfere with each other at all. They sit side-by-side on your computer, like having two different programs installed.
Apathy is on the rise, but nobody seems to care.

All graphic driver have two parts : one to drive OpenGL and a second to drive DirectX application. They will never mix. Now, most games are DirectX based only Quake Like use OpenGL (some can use both rendering path).

You don't have to worry : installing DirectX or OpenGL games will not set your professionnel OpenGL applications upside down.

Thanks everybody. Now there is no worry that I won't have to explain to my boss why I can't access our important CAD files because I decided to install SimCity.
