Hi all,

After several months of using my T60, I have only one complaint: The web "forward"/"back" buttons to the right and left of the up arrow key are driving me insane. I'm used to navigating using the arrow keys as I type messages on forums, web-based mail, etc, and it seems like 25% of the time I'll accidentally brush the "back" button, thereby completely losing whatever I've typed. As far as I'm concerned, these things are the one major design flaw of this otherwise excellent computer.

So now that I'm done ranting, the real question: Can I disable these buttons? I have absolutely no interest in using them for their intended purpose (or any other purpose for that matter) and just want them disabled so that I no longer lose work. Is there a keyboard reconfiguration utility of some sort? I'm running Windows Vista, in case that matters.

I've been using Keyboard Layout Manager for all my keyboard layout needs. I don't know if the program supports reprogramming of the keys you've mentioned because I was never interested in that part of its functionality, but I think it might.

If so, I just downloaded the "medium" version and it doesn't seem to let me configure anything except the core alphanumeric keys (but perhaps I need to buy a license to do more?)

Yes, that's the one.
Based on the upper screenshot on http://www.klm32.com/2000/index.html, it seems it might do what you want. However, I can't really promise you anything, since I've never used it for that kind of editing.

So the IBM/Lenovo Keyboard Customizer supplied with the T60 and XP isn't an option with Vista?

I ask only because it has a checkbox labeled "Enable Browser Keys." I'm pretty sure that unchecking it turns them off . . .

you can also use that program to require that the back/forward keys require an extended press before being detected - just in case you decide you want to re-enable them again at some point. i use this for the caps lock key, works nice.
