Or you can only get the built-in webcam model by customerizing them

I would like to know that, too. In the tabook there is no T61 with integrated webcam.

what do you guys use the webcams for? I honestly have never came up with a need for one yet. Am I missing out?

The quality isn't that high good, is it? External notebook cams aren't that much of a pain either. I have a creative notebook pro and it's pretty small.

I am traveling a lot, and stay like that in contact with my family. An additional webcam, even though for laptops (like I have am using right now), is just a pain: additional space, cables hanging around, one USB port less. I would really like to have an integrated webcam, but also need the international warranty. This is why I need a premade T61 with integrated webcam.

Hehe, I used to think like you too. But after my brief experience with a Macbook, I now find it quite handly when communicating with long distance friends/family.

And when I get a new laptop (whether Thinkpad or not), I'd surely want at least a basic webcam built in.

You have to customize to get the camera as of yet. Later on (how long I don't know), you might see models with a pre-configured one. Also, I can't say if this option will be available in Australian models or not.

Australian models got the R61 89185MM with 15.4" built-in webcam and dedicated video card already. http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... ry=89185MM

T61 Australian model 646069M has a 15.4" inch screen with ATI dedicated video card 128mb??

Do I really need to wait until an odd OZ model T61 15.4" with dedicated GPU and webcam as this R61 I prefer hasn't got 1394?

Before anyone lays out serious bucks for a new Lenovo Thinkpad, which are not impressing reviewers, SOME members may want to check out the new $199 Asus ultra notebook, 1.9 pounds. Built-in phone modem, Xandros Linux on a chip, 512MB DDR2 Ram, built-in camera, Lightning fast Flash Ram hard drive, Intel P4 CPU, drivers for Wind XP thrown-in, four USB 2.0 ports, two on each side, built-in Wifi, 3 hour battery charge, etc, etc. Original release is for China, then Indonesia, English Language version scheduled for late August release.

I am unable find any info on T61 6460-69M anywhere on lenovo (EPP too) except google so I am just going to say what you saw was a typo unless you show me more solid proof.

I remember I saw it for one day on EPP and then was gone. Clearly it is T61 but it says only with ATI dedicated video card. I also googled it and can't find any further details. Sorry.

Is it a 15.4" T61 with WSXGA+ with dedicated video card?

Hmmm ... I may just be too old, but ... I have so far flown about 95,000 miles this year already, which is a pretty heavy travel schedule. And yet I have never once wished for a video connection; voice is all I really need. With Skype (which can work with the built-in microphone and speaker) I rarely need to use my mobile phone for calling home now, and hotel phones almost never.

Maybe I'm missing out on something, though, and having a low-res, low frame-rate video connection using a webcam would make those conversations all the more special? :?

You should try it. If both sides have fast internet connections, the quality is pretty amazing (with both Skype and Windows Live Messenger).

Enjoy,
