can A T60 1953 upgrade to vista?

I have a T60 and it seem like mine is pretty slow or should i switch back to window xp pro? I am running vista ultimate.

Original description: T2300(1.66GHz), 512MB RAM, 60GB 5400rpm HD, 15in 1024x768 LCD, Intel 950, CDRW/DVD, Intel 802.11abg wireless, Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure chip, Fingerprint reader, 6c Li-Ion batt, WinXP Pro

Upgrade your memory, get a bigger and faster HDD and upgrade your processor, if possible. Vista is very demanding...

I might add, do it in that order. Upgrading your memory is most important - that's where the vast majority of your speed improvement will come from.

would an external hard drive help? or does it have to be an internal?

Memory is the main factor here. If you can upgrade to at least 2GB. If that's not an option you could try using ReadyBoost, I've read that it is more effective when you have little memory.

No external HD does not help much.
T60P, T7200, 4GB, FireGL 5250, 3945ABG, nice little baby.
