Memory Question

#1 Post by Miller88 » Sun Jun 24, 2007 5:28 am

I may get the opportunity to buy a 1gig memory stick that came out of a Toshiba that was purchased in September. My thinkpad currently had 1gig (2x512mb) of memory. Would there be any issues running a 1gig stick and a 512mb stick?

Eventually I would like to get 2gb in here.

There is no problem with using two different size memory modules.
X220 (4287-2W5, Windows 8 Pro) / X31 (2672-CXU, XP Pro) / X61s (7668-CTO, Windows 8 Pro)

There's no problem as long as they're compatible memory. You need DDR2 PC2-5300 memory (DDR2 PC2-6400 is also fine).

If you install two differently-sized modules, your system will no longer operate in symmetric dual-channel memory mode. However, The performance decrease is negligible.
Apathy is on the rise, but nobody seems to care.

Then I'll look into getting the 1gig stick of memory. I do game occasionally on the laptop, but when I do I usually run out of memory and then it would start paging.
