Battery Capacity

#1 Post by rmarshll » Wed Jun 27, 2007 12:24 am

My New 6 cell battery is shows the designed capacity as 56.16, but when i did the calibration the full charge capacity is more then that , its 59.19

Is it common for batteries to have a higher level charging capacity then the designed specs?

Thanks
Ryan

mine was the same way. It took 40 charge cycles to dip below 100%. I've heard others were the same...

Did you guys all do calibration against a brand new battery?

I am scared because a lot people saying you shouldn't fully discharge a Li-ion battery.

Dont worry.. If you use the Calibration Tool that your Thinkpad came with in the Power Manager your safe.. it works very well.

My Battery is now below the 100% mark .. but not by much.. i think full capacity is around 56.50 and the battery still after 80 cycles is getting a full charge of 54.90.. I personally run it right down to the 5 % mark before I charge it.. and I even charge it sometimes half way if I gotta take it with me.. just watch the capacity levels.. they will drop and when they go down then maybe once a month or so calibrate the battery.. seems to have worked for me..

Thanks

By the way, do you have to leave the computer running during calibration? Can I turn it off, or suspend, hibernate?

you have to leave it running.. just follow the instructions.. I made it so when I closed the screen it wouldnt shut the computer down that way it just turned the back lite off of the lcd.. and dont used the computer when you do it.. its best to start it when you go to bed.. and shutdown any programs running in the background..

However, you put a full cycle on the battery for every run, so its not something you should use on a "nice to" basis.

Use it only when you have a very specific "need to".

If it works, (if it ain’t broke), don’t fix it.

Bill Bolton has already highlighted on it.
"I've come a long, long way," she said, "and I will go as far,
