T7700 and T7500 difference?

I see on the Lenovo website that the price difference between a T7700 and a T7500 is $330. Is that how prices always go? $330 for an increase in .2 GHz? Is there any other difference between them?

Meanwhile, the main question for me and I imagine many other potential customers is whether to wait for the T61P or go to a comparable machine from a different company.

Seems like Lenovo is losing customers by not even posting potential release dates for the T61P. All of us people waiting really have no idea. Of course, it is not in a company's best interest to post a date that it cannot meet. However, it is also a bad sign when a company cannot meet its own posted dates and stops posting dates because their (past/present) scheduling is unreliable.

Better to wait and get it right (fix all the bugs and so on) even if this means leaving potential customers wondering and/or buying from a competing computer company. Still, it would be nice and/or more reassuring if there weren't so many bugs to work out and so many reliability problems with dates.

Has there even been a definitive date for the T61p release? From what I understood, there were just a lot of rumors flying around--starting with a PDF from a University that had a T61P for sale. The release dates stem from various calls to Lenovo for order/sales, which is hardly what I would consider to be an official release date.

And why would people be tempted to switch because the T61p isn't released yet? That's like saying, oh, well, the next version of the Dell XPS2 isn't out yet, so I'm going to go with a different company. I guess I just don't see the connection.

As far as the differences between processors? I'm not sure why, but the high-end mobile processors ALWAYS tend to have a massive jump between the second fastest and the fastest processor. The retail price is a difference of about $200, just to put it in perspective. And no, you probably won't notice much of a difference between the two... I went with a T7500 on my T61, and I couldn't be happier.

Nope, i d prefer to get a nice 20" widescreen with a docking station.

To Redmumba and others:

I meant no offense to anyone who is happy with the current Lenovo models. I had in mind people who are currently in the market for a high-end mobile work station (that is capable of different kinds of work..). I think many people think that Lenovo is following IBMs not infrequent practice of releasing models that build on previous models in terms of quality/options/components/capability in gradual, short increments – ending in a P version that is the latest, high-end mobile work station they have to offer. Without quibbling about particular specs, I believe there is a standard in the market for the best current high-end stations that share certain basic specs (that are basically the best, current, high-end specs available for mobile work stations…). The current T60s and the T61s do not seem to have these specs. People in the market that I have described (if there are any – maybe there aren’t, but there seem to be many such people) won’t buy the lower specs found on the current T6xs and may purchase a work station from another computer company that does offer models with these specs. Of course, people could debate such specs, any alleged differences, whether and how they matter, and so on. I didn’t mean to debate or opine about any of that. I just want to buy a computer with the projected T61P specs. If I can’t buy one from Lenovo soon, I may buy one from another computer company, despite my love of the ThinkPad build. Am I really alone here?

I'm a T61p waiter.

My A21p had a UXGA screen.

My fleet of R50p computers have UXGA IPS screens.
My late Z61p had a 1920 x 1200 WUXGA screen.

I'm hoping my T61p will have a WUXGA screen and a 7K200 Travelstar drive.

I believe the T61p will be released within ten days.

TOP CHIP ALWAYS commands a price premium like this.

You should think of it as an exponential curve, not a linear one.

The connection is pretty simple really. Alot of people want a Santa Rosa system with a 15.4" screen or a 14" 4:3 screen with nVidia graphics. Lenovo doesn't offer that right now, but the T61p should. There are some other manufacturers that offer that right now so it's tempting to just purchase from them. Especially with out any official release date.

I'm waiting for it as well. I'm pretty sure that the T61p will be available for purchase between July 10th and 12th. How long it will take to be shipped is another question.
