Just got the new T60p and am still trying to figure out how best to attach printers and digital projector. This is the model 2613. I can't seem to find the serial and parallel ports....maybe it doesn't have them anymore? What is the solution? The help manual isn't much use on simple stuff. Basically I want to hook up my laser printer and be able to do lectures & presentations.
Thanks, Xcotty

No serial and parallel ports on the T60p. You may be able to get an Ultrabay Slim adapter with these ports, or get a docking station that has them.

ultrabay slim that has serial ports? What? Anyways, the docking station has these ports and if you're using anything that still uses a serial port then time to throw that out too. USB is the standard for most peripherals, even parallel is outdated. If you really have to have them tho there are USB to X converters that you can use to get them to work. It would be best if you got a print server which can connect your printers to the network and therefore you can print wirelessly.
As for the digital projector, wouldn't that be over the network too or even VGA plug? The Thinkpad does have a VGA plug on it so you can plug in your projector right there.

USB to serial adapters and USB to parallel adapters are fairly inexpensive. I see them for around $10 each. They're indispensable when working on Cisco routers and other industrial equipment with embedded controllers and legacy equipment. Congratulations on your new computer.

That's amazing response to a question....Thanks to you all. I now understand the options and even some of the reasoning.
What happened is that I got caught in the IBM Thinkpad trap - meaning my old Thinkpads have been so reliable and so convenient that I fell out of date because of no longer needing to buy a new laptop every two years. So that this doesn't happen too quickly again I've also ordered an X61 tablet.
And thanks to dr_st... The ThinkWiki site is a nice resource as well.
