T60: set model and serial number with maintenance disk HELP!

#1 Post by karesz501 » Thu Jul 05, 2007 12:31 pm

Hello guys,

I've bought a used T60 (2008-66G) a few days ago, but the former owner "forgot" to mention the fact that the motherboard was probably replaced  . Unfortunatelly this only turned out when the system update utility produced the 75 error message and when the system detect gave that the machines model is "MFG-_IN".
About the process I've read in in the T4x topic, that the model and serial number can be burnt in the machine's motherboard manually later on. Understandably, the hungarian IBM does not cover this under warranty, whats more the warranty of the machine is probably gone as well
Now I am trying to get things work again, and would appreciate some help from you since I am more than hopeless.

I am trying to get my money back, but it is not so simple at all... What's more, probably won't work.

Thanks in advance any help, please be very detailed since I am not an expert!

Kind regards,
Karesz

When I recently had my system board replaced on-site the technician used his maintenance diskette to set the serial number (in EEPROM). He set the first two digits to 99, retaining the remaining five digits from the original system board. Later I realized that Lenovo websites (e.g. warranty query) would not recognise the new serial number, so I complained to Lenovo and the technician returned to reset the serial number to the original value. But I never discovered why he had changed it - he just said it was normal practice.

Anyway, I'm glad to see in GomJabbar's link that I could probably have reset it myself, if necessary. Good to know.
Current: T60p (2007-93G). Previous: T23 (2647-9LG).
