T61, with Intel wifi says im not connected, but I am.

#1 Post by exlax » Thu Jul 05, 2007 8:45 pm

My new Intel wifi card has been working just fine, and it still is, but the indicator in the Taskbar says that my connection status is "unkown" and "Server execution failed" with a big red X! Any ideas why this could be happening? Even when I check my wifi utility it says that I am connected, but in the Taskbar im still not connected

I ended up doing a sys restore to fix it. I thik there is some coflict between Thinkvatages Access software and Vistas built in, so I took the Access off. No problems yet.

In my opinion, you don't really need Access Connections, unless you are used to it, or Windows wireless manager is not working properly. I use Windows' own, and although I liked XP's manager better than Vista's, I haven't had any problem.

So, if it's working without AC, then good for you.

Shut down Access Connections

#4 Post by tphawk » Fri Jul 06, 2007 11:26 am

Access Connections is more sophisticated than Windows own network manager, but they don't get along.

On my new T61 I finally shut down AC, which requires using Windows config to turn off lots of AC stuff that loads at boot up. Now Vista by itself makes the connections smoothly.

However, the T61's Intel B/G/N wi-fi is unbelievably slow, too slow to be usable -- tested on various networks/access points, side-by-side with normal-speed X40 and X31.

Check your service Network Connections (Netman) and make sure it's on.

So how do I shut off Access Connections on my T61 and let Vista manage my connection? I'm having weird issues (can connect to some sites but not all) with the network at school. Works fine at home just not here. And in case that doesn't work, how do I turn Access Connections back on?
