extend desktop: from wide to regular

Can I extend my desktop from a wide screen laptop (T61) to a regular format external display? That would be: WXGA along with SXGA

I currently have the following screens: SXGA+ (from my T42) along with SXGA. I works like a charm...

When you extend the desktop (and don't just have dual display), both monitors can have completely different resolutions. You said yourself that you currently use SXGA+ with SXGA with no problems.

Absolutely. I used to connect my WUXGA Dell Inspiron to a 20" UXGA Samsung LCD monitor, and my WXGA Vaio K23 to an 18" SXGA (1280x1024) eMachines CRT monitor.
