Estimate on T60 Repair

The T60 was dropped from a window sill to a tile floor. As you can see, the corner took the brunt of the damage. Everything works fine though!

This machine has 3 years onsite service, but not accidental

Has anybody had something simliar happen to a thinkpad that could give an estimate on a repair bill? I called Lenovo and described the damage; they gave an estimate of $350-750

Does a Thinkpad have to be sent into Lenovo for repairs outside of damages covered by the warranty? How does this effect the 3 year warranty (does it void anything?)

EDIT: It wasn't me who left it on the window sill... I know better than that -- it's our church's computer.

Technically speaking to maintain the warranty repairs must be performed by Lenovo or a Lenovo business partner. There is a member here (mitchellst) who is a partner, perhaps you can contact them for a reduced rate. Without close inspection, minimally you need a top LCD cover and a bottom case.

How it happened? did your wife do it?

Well, it's lenovo's product and nobody knows it better than them so I believe having them handling it, is the best option for you at the moment.

He clearly needs a bottom case. I don't think that's a CRU. Good information on the non-CRU replacement thing though, I was not aware of that.

How it happened? The church secretary was in the hospital delivering her first baby. Meanwhile her husband was waiting (complications w/ the baby -- everythings fine now) with the laptop on the window sill in the hospital, not sure exactly what made it take the plunge.

Like Harry said, the only thing that needs to be replaced is the top cover and bottom cover... but $350 ballpark figure from Lenovo seemed a bit steep.

I'm just glad the church took my advice and went with a thinkpad. Who knows what would have happened w/ a consumer laptop.

You can try to hunt for a barebone system which could cost more than $350 and insall all the components in it and create a second usable system for home with the leftover parts.

OR let lenovo fix it for you.
