#1 Post by Liamo0o » Wed Jul 11, 2007 4:39 pm

Will the T61p come out with a 4:3 screen? ever? I'm not a fan of widescreen

Thus far the best you can do is:

Choose one of the 4:3 T61's and outfit it with a 128MB version of the Quadro FX 570M. You don't get UWB or firewire or anything else that comes with the t61p.
IBM ThinkPad T42p (2373-7XU): 1.8GHz/1024MB, 15" UXGA, DVD-RW, 80GB, 2200b/g.
T42 (2374-3VU): 1.7GHz/512MB, 14.1"SXGA+, DVD-RW, 80GB, 2200b/g.

The T61p is supposed to have a 14.1" 4:3 option -- see below, for example. However, these may not be orderable immediately.

ThinkPad T61p 8889-3DG
14.1-in TFT 1400 X 1050,
Bluetooth wireless technology,
Integrated Fingerprint Reader,
Intel Core 2 Duo processor T7700,
Mobile Intel PM965 Express Chipset,
nVIDIA Quadro FX 570M , 100.0GB / 7200rpm,
DVD Recordable, 2 GB,
Intel PRO/Wireless WiFi 4965AGN,
Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate
X220 (4287-2W5, Windows 8 Pro) / X31 (2672-CXU, XP Pro) / X61s (7668-CTO, Windows 8 Pro)

I wonder if this is equivalent to the current 4:3 offerings. Tom, any word on pricing? Currently, the 15" T61p is a few hundred less than a similarly-configured 14".

just talked to a sales rep, they said a 4:3 screen would come out at the end of this month. I've been hearing people complain about the quality of samsung monitors, are they really that bad? Also, I am going to be using this computer for 3d applications such as maya, would widescreen or 4:3 be better?

Alas, no word on pricing. The 8889-3DG model may also be a Europe-only model as I don't have US info in order to be able to confirm. However, the European info included multiple 4:3 T61p models so that's a good sign.

Anyone knows if the new 4:3 T61s has LCD roll cage, like the one in WS version?

4:3 Europe only, offcourse not!

Overall, it always look like Lenovo doesn't want us Europeans as customers, why would they then sell their laptop with better screen (4:3) only sell in Europe.. :?

Good question. The only model currently available (8889CTO) has no firewire and appears to be simply a T61 in T60 clothing. No idea about the roll cage or improved cooling setup.

I winder if that's why the 4:3 models have been delayed... Lenovo needed additional time to engineer the old T60 chassis up to T61 standards.

Hello,
I've checked the tabook (version 325) and there is a 8889-26U (14.1" 1400x1050 with NVidia). On the right side there is a note:
"ThinkPad Roll Cage and Top Cover Roll Cage (one-piece magnesium)"
Hope this helps,
regards, zgibek

Good catch. Thanks. Shame that model is not apparently available, however, despite being in the tabook.
