July 2007: iT61 includes 4:3 14" and 15" t61p models.
ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pcinstitu ... tabook.pdf
I didn't notice this earlier, but here are screen brightness specs for each model of T61:
14" XGA: 150 nits
14" SXGA+: 150 nits
14" WXGA: 185 nits
14" WXGA+: 200 nits
15" WXGA: 200 nits
15" WSXGA+: 200 nits
15" WUXGA: 175 nits
The WUXGA and WSXGA+ screens have the highest contrast ratio (500:1), compared to 200:1 and 300:1 for the other various offerings.

The WSXGA+ 15.4" T61 also has 500:1 contrast.

You're right. Corrected.

Great... there are all of three 14.1" 4:3 models with discrete graphics, and two of them are education models.
Can I buy an education model if I'm not at a school? If not, that leaves me with just one option. Bah.

Though Slightly Off topic, please help out a one time (still using my A21e) Thinkpad owner:
Is the T61, considered a "new Model" (I assume that T4x to T6x was akin to a major revision to a software release) or a "minor" revision to a product line (akin toa "point"-type revsion). OR, neither, just simply a model variant?
Could one sum up the overall differance between T60's and T61's - e.g. new Core 2 Duo "Pro" processors.
I do presume there is some-sort-of logic to the numbering schema used by Lenovo within the R, T, X etc model lines. The sub "p" being "Professional" or "WorkStation Class"
Thanks for the help

I'm no expert but I believe the T61 is significantly different to the T60 -- different CPU, different GPU, different chassis, different cooling system etc. In fact, it seems the difference between the T60 and T61 is as significant as the T43 to T60.
As far as models go, the X-series is the ultraportable range, the R-series is the more bulky "economy" model (or was until recently) and the T-series machine have traditionally been business models, a little boring but built like tanks and offering good performance in a svelte package (though that seems to be changing). The closest to the old A-series is now the R series.
Now all these traditional model boundaries seems to be blurring, however, with the ever-slimmer R series machines about the same size and price as the ever-fatter T-series machines. Not sure what Lenovo's long term plan for the various models is but someone in their marketing department needs to wake up IMO.
The "p" models are the workstation machines, usually with the best processors, graphics cards, bells and whistles.

Isnt a 200:1 contrast ratio too low ?
My Dell WUXGA screen has 500:1 and I find it gorgeous compared to the T30 screen.

That 200 nit WXGA+ looks pretty tasty. The 150 nits on my R60 is one of the few things I don't like about it.
Core 2 Duo to Santa Rosa isn't a huge leap in my experience. My R60 is the coolest and quietest machine I've ever used. The extremely cool and quiet Seagate drive gets part of the credit.

So why are the 4:3 screens worse on that specsheet?
And the viewing angle? The viewing angle of the 14" WXGA+ is bad, from the others too?

yes, I've been waiting for the SXGAs to come out - it is possible to customize a 15'' SXGA T61p right?

I'm sorry but I scoured the tabook and can find no "iT61p" model or in fact any t61p model in 14'' or 15' 4:3
