I want to go back to Xp so my programs will work, The instructions say this:

Copy all the subdirectories and files in the C:\IBMTOOLS or the C:\SWTOOLS directory to a removable storage device, because you will need them during the installation.

Would that apply since the drivers are for Vista...

Has anybody done this that could give me some advice on getting all drivers working again...Thanks Michael

There are at least two ways to go:
1. Ask IBM if they have XP recovery CD's for that machine. They may well do as Vista not yet capable for many business people. Even if they cost a bit, that is the easiest way to go. All the drivers will be correct, and the recovery CD's will build a recovery Pre-Desktop Area.
2. Use your own XP CD (make certain you have a legal key). In this case, before doing anything, download the correct network drivers and burn onto a CD. Then install XP (formatting first) and install the network drivers. Then you can connect XP to the internet and collect all the other drivers (wireless, audio, video, power, mouse, configuration and then optional stuff).

mine went pretty trouble free except for a couple of errant device manager entries that some people say can't be resolved

My 2623-D6U upgraded easy with a few glitches... be patient it's sooooo much faster and better as long as you have a dual core and 2gb. You can find fxes for most programs if not on oem websites in Google searches. Gire er a rip Mine is like lightening

Upgrades, as opposed to clean installations, are ALWAYS easier to do in the short term, but also ALWAYS are slower and more problematic in the long term.

I have XP recovery media for T60 I can mail you, if you can mail me the Vista copies?

You're not entitled to use Product Recovery disks for any OS other than the COA license affixed on the back of your notebook, please keep this in mind for legal reasons.

Secondly it wouldn't have worked either.

I actually have a copy of Vista Ultimate, but wanted to use the Lenovo build so I get all the apps and settings. I can also just run an upgrade and download all the Vista stuff from Lenovo if required, but wanted to save myself the time and effort.

Since I believe you have a retail copy of Vista so unfortunately my statement still applies if your machines does not have Windows Vista COA affixed on it's back/bottom.
