hard drive partition help

#1 Post by nomissa » Sun Jul 15, 2007 5:59 pm

I recently installed a new hard drive on my T60p by cloning my old drive onto an external hard drive. However, now I can't seem to remove the partition on the external drive.

I go into computer management -> disk management, and it shows the drive as having 98 GB as a healthy, active primary partition, but there is another 14 GB partition that is unallocated. I'd like to combine the 14 GB and 98 GB into one partition because at this point, I can only save stuff to the 98 GB partition. Any help would be much appreciated.

There are two ways to do this.

1. Put the hard drive back into the computer, go into the BIOS and set the predesktop area to disabled, Then you can do as you please with the partition.

2. Go get the Hitachi Feature Tool, run it and find the "Change Capacity" setting, set it to the correct size and it will take care of the hidden partition.

I was wondering what software you are using to keep the hidden partition because I on the contrary want to keep as it is for my new HDD upgrade for the old T23.

carbon_unit: Thanks very much for your help. I have one question though -- I disabled the predesktop area, but where do I go to see the hidden partition now? As far as I can tell, the disk still look the same when I go into my computer.

rbi: To clone my old hard drive, I used acronis true image. When I cloned the drive, the program just created the extra partition automatically. Hope that helps.

That helps. But can I download the trial version to do that or I need to buy it? Has anyone tried Acronis to upgrade the old HDD and keep the F11 R & R one button function? :D
