Trackpoint drift

I've had my T60 for a little over a year now, and I'm having some problems with the cursor drifting when I use the trackpoint. I know that, to some extent, the cursor is supposed to correct itself when the trackpoint gets out of whack, but this is definitely doing it way more than it should...it's gotten really annoying. Has anyone had a similar problem or know how I might be able to fix this?

Try changing the trackpoint.

Happens to me all the time with my X60s. Changing the trackpoint won't help (didn't for me anyway). It just recalibrates itself every 3 seconds or so. I don't know if there is a real fix.

Try keeping your finger off of the trackpoint when it's not being used

.
I have a bad habit of resting my finger on top of the trackpoint even if I'm not trying to push it around. In doing so, the trackpoint is measuring the force being applied and tries to 'zero out' the pressure in order to remain stationary. When I then remove my finger (after realizing what I'm doing again), the cursor takes off across the screen.
The other thing to try is to adjust the sensitivity of the trackpoint via the mouse/trackpoint control panel. Make it less sensitive and see if that works for you.

If your notebook is still under warranty then call lenovo they'll send you a new one; otherwise try the fix that Ray has just mentioned.

Whole keyboard. Lenovo sends full CRU's to customers.

wow- new to thinkpad land- that's nice to know.
sorry if this is stupid but what does "cru" mean? Customer replacement unit?
What is FRU? Factory replacement unit?

FRU = Field replaceable unit
CRU = Customer replaceable unit
Supposedly the difference is the "F" requires a factory technician (i.e., trained in some way), while the "C" can be done by anyone who knows what a screwdriver is and how to use it.

Well, actually there are
three levels, just the last one is kept highly confidential:
CRU = Customer replaceable unit
FRU = Field replaceable unit
RRU = Ray replaceable unit

Thanks, Tom!
<slightly OT rant>
What I don't really understand is how a T23 keyboard
CRU insulator (black piece of plastic film underneath the keyboard which is supposed to 'protect' the system from keyboard spillage) can ONLY be accessed by removing the keyboard, with is an
FRU!
</slightly OT rant>
FRUs really can be replaced by the non-technical person if they follow the directions as outlined in the Hardware Maintenance Manuals. You only need a screwdriver and maybe a pair of tweezers to pick out those tiny screws. Oh yeah, good eyes helps too

This is the correct answer to the original question. Lift your finger off of the track point after moving the mouse. If you let your finger rest on the button too long, the cursor will start drifting the trackpoint attempts to recalibrate.
