T61 Screens

#1 Post by pesce » Mon Jul 16, 2007 10:49 pm

I'm not pleased with the screen on my T61 and I'm likely to return it for this reason. I do like the T61 enough to get another though, so I'm hoping to get more information about the quality of the screens offered.

It would be very helpful if people posted their screen, maker, and general impressions.

Mine:

WXGA+, LG:

1. Brightness: probably a 7 or 8 out of 10; especially bright for a thinkpad

2. Viewing angles: poor both vertically and horizontally (color washes out quickly when looking off center)

3. My main problem is the glittery screen and I would like to avoid another laptop with the same issue. I've read that this may be due to a driver or bios issue (if anyone knows more, I'd appreciate it). Here are a couple discussion threads on the subject:

No way, since FlexView is dead all screens will be horrible (technologically ten years back). As for the issue, color dithering is commonly used for crappy TN panels. The TN technology can never display reasonable color palette. The issue might be more or less visible depending on various conditions. Do you have color profile file for the display installed ? Do you have full 32bit color selected in Display Properties ?

Until Lenovo gets it we will suffer with these screens, but the rest of the ThinkPad keeps us coming back. The older Z's offered the MAXBRITE screen that was greatm with the same matte finish. Why they don;t get the screen issue is beyond me. Probably because they can get away with it.....
