Whoa, that's awesome. However, a lot of other things influence the score, such as the CPU, and memory, so I'm not sure how reliable that chart is.

CPU have influence but not memory except perhaps with low end system with less then 512 MB. Such a chart is usefull to have some idea about performances. Any mesurement is subjet to errors, imprecisions and so on. It's also difficult to know GPU core/mem frequency and bus memory width...

Hmm, it's all put away now, although you don't get much in the box, you get the laptop, battery, power adaptor and a few bits of paper plus a spare red mouse cursor.

Does 3D Mark also run on different resolutions?

Default resolution is 1024x768 with fixed settings. You need to buy a commercial version to allow custom tests/benchs.

Hi erik

have been using it over the weekend and so far like the extra desktop space.

Geometry is good, display is very sharp and I'm having no problems working with it so far.

Display angle is something you might notice if your looking for it, doesn't bother me though and isn't a problem if you have your eyes dead centre.

I calibrate it with a spyder express and the before/after picture was a big improvement, the blue cast that was there before was gone and colours looked more natural.

Comparing pictures just now between the T61P and a benq FP241w and to my eye they look pretty close, before the calibration though the T61P looked dull, washed out etc

Gripes - 6+ lbs for this puppy? 5.7 with the travel bezel? Does that weight bother anyone here besides me??

Wish they would have cut the size of the monitor down to 14.1 (or atleast given the option) - that would cut a good chunk of weight off of it right?

My X61s order is still pending and I thought about getting this, but wow, the weight would be killer!

garry, that's good to know.   my biggest fear in upgrading to the T61p (rather than a UXGA IPS T60p) is the screen.   but, i think i can live with the new screen given the added benefits of the T61p.

i guess if i don't like it then someone in the marketplace forum will have an opportunity at a T61p very cheap -- like EPP cheap.

How is it carrying the T61p around? Do you notice the difference between the 15" T43 (weight and packing in bag)? What kind of bag do you use?

I'm an incoming business school student and am interested in the added real estate - but the weight scares me a bit...haven't been to the gym for awhile!

Carry it in a laptop backpack - backpacks that have a laptop compartment

Yeah, I use a Targus backpack bag that I've had for 4-5 years now, there's a velcro strip at the end that made the T43P nice and snug, for the T61P I removed that and it fitted fine.

I've not noticed any difference carrying the T61P around compared to the T43P.

Hi, I ordered this notebook for my sister mainly for maya and 3dmax use but still I have no idea how powerful this notebook is. And also have no idea how it performs compared to T60 V5200 since I cant find a single post anywhere about the benchmark.

It will a lot of help if you can post a specviewperf 10 results which is equivalent to 3DMark for professional 3D applications.
That will tell a lot about the system's true performance.

Yes, I know about that chart but the thing is that it doesnt.

Its like, same as one cant predict average frame rate of a certain game by looking at the 3DMark score. It doesnt mean that score 20000 is 2X fps than 10000 in all the applications.

For example maya could performs 2~3times faster on V5250 than 1500FX.

Specviewperf 10 benchmarks about 8 different commercial professional 3D applications not like 3DMark which is a program by itself.

But you still don't know whether program #6 is 50% better or 50% worse on any given graphics chipset ... the only way to know that is an application-specific benchmark. And even there you might need a task-specific benchmark so that it matches how you use the application. And those are going to be pretty hard to find in general!

Well, After a month when the notebook arrives, ill post the specviewperf score anyway to see how it does compared to others.

Ordered a 200GB 7k200 drive today, ran HD-Tach on the 100GB 7200rpm drive delivered with the T61P

HTS72101 0G9Sa00 (Hitachi)
Random Access 15.7ms
Average Read 40.5MB/s
Burst Speed 113.3 MB/s

I'll run the same on the new drive once it's installed

garry, how much ram do you have installed?

GarryF, how is the contrast on this thing ?
In particular, how are the blacks ?
Is the black REALLY black or just greyish ?

2GB, I think I'll leave the upgrade to 4GB for a while until 64bit becomes more viable for me

The blacks seem fine to me, main problem on my display is the light leakage along the bottom of the screen, this can only be seen when the screen is blacked out (at boot or screen saver)

i have a feeling that 64bit won't help because the BIOS will still steal anywhere from 512 to 1024 megs for addressing, regardless of OS.   it'll be interesting to see what happens.   i plan on testing this when mine arrives but won't be surprised if vista 64 reports 3, 3.25, or 3.5 gigs available.

When I had 4GB in my desktop with Vista 64bit, the OS saw 4GB.

How does it compare to the other laptop screens ? The back levels I mean ?
Eg, is it the same as a T42 or much better ?
