Courier delivered it 20 mins ago, should have been here yesterday
Anyways, here is a pic, I'll take some more in comparison to my T43P later on then run some benchmarks to see how it compares.

Congratulations GaryF! I am looking forward to getting some feedback on your awesome machine. Can you make sure you comment on screen quality, i.e. sharpness, contrast, brightness? Did you get a chance to look up who makes your display, LG or Samsung.
Also, does it run hot with such an advance graphics card? Does the fan continuously run at full blast? What is the overall noise level of your machine?
Thanks. I hope you enjoy your machine.

According to the Hardware Maintenance manual, only Samsung WUXGAs are available, but i'd like to know if that's what you got too.
You'v got at least one, or two(?) FlexViews to compare with, which is very exciting. Please do, when you get the time.
Congrats on the T61p!

I am also looking forward to hearing more about your new T61p. I am about to order one myself...

I believe a mod/admin "disabled" the pic, because it is larger than 50 kb. Changing it back doesn't mean it stays hehe

ah, ok

no one said, I just thought I'd done it wrong, now it's 38k

it doesn't look that much wider than the 15" T42/T43. nice.

i'm about to order a T61p and would appreciate seeing or hearing a comparison of your UXGA IPS and WUXGA screens.

Here is the vista performace index, I was surprised to see ram being lowest
Here's a pic of it side by side with the T43P

Considering both screens are both 1200 pixels high you loose a fair bit of height, I don't mind having the res even higher than the T43P but I can see why people might not like it.
Colours are quite far off as well, the T43P was calibrated a month or two ago with a spyder so I'll try the same with the T61P eventually. The T61P seems a lot brighter, viewing angles aren't so good as the T43P but I expected that.
Going onto Lenovo website the "auto detect machine" isn't working, I'm guessing it's not in the database yet. I also tried manually typing in the model and s/n into the parts site but again it comes up blank, is there any other way of telling what screen it is?
Noise is a big improvement, the T43P never really annoyed me but I understand it had a reputation for being noisy, so I'll quite enjoy this. I changed power plan from "Energy Star" to "Max performance" and then ran the vista index, and you could hear a slight increase in noise but in general it's all drowned out by the T43P fan.
High res pics are here

Garry, the WUXGA T61p is the most exciting Thinkpad ever made IMO (the only way to top it would be a 2.7-lb X61s with SXGA+). Congratulations on getting such a fine laptop. If you have easy access to a balance, would you mind measuring its (i.e. the T61p's) weight?

I'm drooling right now. It's only... two more weeks before mine even ships. THIS IS KILLING ME.
Anyway, could you post the options you got, so I can sort of see what my scores will be? Also, could you get some pics of the sides and the back so we can see the ports? And why is the enter button huge?

color accuracy is what i'm most interested in for photography and graphic design. if the WUXGA screen isn't as good as the UXGA IPS then i'll either have to live with it or buy a 15" UXGA T60 just to get another IPS screen.

it's a UK english keyboard.

Awesome. Thanks for the additional pics, GarryF.
I spent some time tracking down who the manufacturer of the 15.4 WUXGA will be but had no luck. I even called tech support and the parts department but neither one could pull anything off their system.
I know the Z61p came in either the LG or Samsung. LG is supposed to be the superior panel (based anecdotally from Z61p and Dell D820 15.4 WUXGA owners). LG is supposed to be brighter and sharper.
There is a tool called Everest that others have used to pull up part manufacturer information. I think its free. I personally don't have experience with it. Here's a link if you are interested:

They seemed to have pulled that manual down. It was dated May 2007 so it was probably out-dated anyway. They even mispelled Samsung (sumsung).

Well, that and no warning in the subject line will definitely earn a broken, if not deleted, link.

This was the link my dealer gave, he seemed to think this was the only model being stocked in the UK for now.

Here's the front

from left to right there's firewire, Wireless Switch and memory slot
Left hand side

from left to right VGA, comms ports, sound ports, single USB and the expansion slot
Right hand side

Showing the writer & 2 usb ports.
I shoved some other pictures onto the gallery link above too of the back, top etc

The machine seems to be whisper quiet when in "energy star" mode, there's a little noise from the HD area is all. Set to max performance and a fan ramps up slightly, I'd still say it's a lot quieter that the T43P. Also you always knew when you started the T43P, it blasted away loudly, on the T61P you have to look at the lights to check it's running with the noise from the T43P next to it.
Heatwise the top feels cool so far all the time, feels a bit hot underneath left back and not to bad at all under the HD front right atm.
re: the screen type, I'll keep checking with the website, hopefully details will appear in due course.
For the card slot I took a Sandisk extreme III 2GB card from my camera and shoved it in, it happily asked if I wanted to use readyboost and worked without any trouble, quite pleased about that. With a SD card in maybe 0.5-1.0mm sticks out so should be ok.

It's up again, dated Jul 14th.

There's still one manufacturer - "Sumsung"
Heh, Nonny... i knew i missed something.

yeah, ignorance can be bliss, don't visit forums and you don't find out about all the problems you'd never have noticed, in my case I can never help it
btw this photo is the screen infront of a dell 2405

Quite a difference considering they are the same res

That graphics card is impressive.
That FireGL graphics card in my T60p only scored a 4.3.

Hi Pianowizard, I found a digital scale here and it read 2.77Kg.

GarryF wrote:Hi Pianowizard, I found a digital scale here and it read 2.77Kg.
Thanks for weighing it! That's
6.11 lbs, 0.2 lbs heavier than what the Tabook says but still pretty good. The Z61p is much heavier, and my 15.4" WUXGA Dell Inspiron 6000 weighed 6.60 lbs.

Hey Garry, I'm looking at your new photos and noticed that the battery doesn't stick out. Is it a 6-cell battery? I thought all T61p's ship with the 9-cell battery, no?

It should be a 6-cell. Garry's system is the one I have also been 'offered' (i.e. the NH36X -- see
http://www5.pc.ibm.com/europe/products. ... enDocument). That is one of the 'top-sellers' and therefore available within a few days, as opposed to a few weeks for other systems (e.g. NH95KUK -- see
http://www5.pc.ibm.com/uk/products.nsf/ ... enDocument).

agarny wrote:It should be a 6-cell.
I see. So, the Tabook is way off when it says the 9-cell T61p with optical drive weighs 5.9 lb. That's more like the weight of a 9-cell T61p
without optical drive.
But the 6-cell model's 6.11 lb is still light enough for most people. If you replace the optical drive with a travel bezel, it will go down to 5.7 lb.
