SATA only works in Compatibility mode for me

I'm running Vista 64-bit Ultimate on my t61 and all works fine, but I cannot get the system to work right unless I have SATA in compatibility mode.

I have the latest drivers installed - which luckily stopped the blue screens on it - and I just installed the 1.14 BIOS

But what happens is that if I have the system set to AHCI, Vista just pauses completely. I cannot click on anything or do anything. the hard drive is not spinning, and the computer appears to be doing nothing. I have to do a hard reset to get anything running again.

I was encouraged that a new driver and now a new BIOs were released both of which addressed the SATA issues, but it still isn't working for me.

Am I alone... it seems some people are happy with the latest versions.

did you install the SATA drivers then reboot then change it in the BIOS to ACHI? Since you changed it to compatability mode to install Vista you have to install the drivers for the actual SATA controller and not the fake thing the BIOS handles for you temporarily.

Actually, I installed Vista with ACHI turned on. Worked for about a day or two with stalls.

Started getting BSOD on boot - so I changed to Compatibility just to get into Vista again.

Installed new Turbo Mem drivers about a week ago. Reboot into Bios, change to ACHI, reboot into vista - same issue. Change back to compatibility

Installed new Bios today, reboot into Vista. Shut down, boot into bios, change to ACHI, reboot into Vista - same issue. Reboot into Vista - re-install latest Turbo Mem drivers - reboot into Vista again - same stall issue.

Reboot into Bios, change to combatibility - and this is where I sit.

I experienced the same problem after downgrading to XP from Vista. You need to download the Intel(R) Matrix Storage Manager driver from the Lenovo tech support and downloads web site, read the readme VERY carefully and make all preparation (run install.cmd from PREPARE folder after unzipping the package). Thus, you can go to the BIOS (during reboot) and switch HD configuration to SATA mode from the compatibility mode and it will work just fine. I passed it by myself. Just RTFM, it is very helpful.
