Can a SATA 3 Gb/s be used in a T60P?

As I understand it sata and sata II are supposed to be backward and forward compatible. Since the Hitachi 7k200 200gb drive comes in both SATA 1.5 Gbit/s and SATA 3.0 Gbit/s models and the prices are essentially the same why would anyone order the SATA 1.5 Gbit/s interface. Is there something I'm missing here? Also, can someone clarify if the T60P sata interface 1.5 or 3.0??
I'm ordering a 7K200 and would sure like to get it right the first time

A T60p has SATA2 so it can use the 3Gbps transfer rate.

according to the
7K200 datasheet, transfer speeds are identical for the SATA 3 and 1.5 GB/sec models. even though the T60/T61 support SATA2, do they support throughput above 1.5 GBPS?

... and SATA 3 Gb/s (the official name) will gain you a grand total of 50 ms whenever the 16 MB disk buffer has been pre-filled and Windows asks for exactly the same data from the buffer.
Emptying the buffer takes 100 ms at 1.5 Gb/s, 50 ms at 3.0 Gb/s. After that you are down to the usual off-media transfer rate of maybe 800 Mb/s, regardless of which disk interface you are using.

Some older VIA and SiS 1.5 Gb/s SATA chipsets did not correctly deal with the autonegotiation with 3 Gb/s SATA devices, so for those you need a device hardwired to 1.5 Gb/s.
And as I pointed out in my other post, the interface speed will not make any perceivable difference in real life ...

fwiw, I'm am successfully using a Seagate Momentus 7200.2 with the pin removed which enables the 3.0gb/s speed and it works perfectly.
I'm now thinking of going for the Hitachi 7K200 after reading this review:

Who cares? neither SATA 1.5 nor 3.0 gbps is even CLOSE to being saturated with hdd transfer speeds. Even for desktop hard drives it is usually a moot point. I wouldn't worry about it.

Ok.
To sum up:
1) If price and availability are equal, the only reason to purchase a sata 1.5 over a 3.0 drive is for backward compatibility on some older chipsets.
2) Performance differences between 1.5 and 3.0 will be negligible.
3) T60/p has a sata II (3.0) interface and will accept both interfaces.
Conclusion: I will be buying a HITACHI Travelstar 7K200 HTS722020K9SA00 (sata 1.5) which is available now.

check this page of a review of the Seagate 7200.2 which notes that only one benchmark was affected by removing the pin to enable 3.0gb/s transfer speeds.
