t61p Vista install from scratch, drivers?

#1 Post by daemondust » Tue Jul 17, 2007 9:51 pm

I ordered a t61p with 1GB ram and without Turbo Memory, but I've ordered that separately. I got Vista Home Basic since that was the cheapest, and bought Vista Ultimate from my Uni's site license for $20.

I'm going to wipe it when I get it. What drivers and software do I need to install, and in what order, to get full use of the hardware? I'll be installing the Turbo Memory and an additional 2GB ram when it gets here in mid August at the latest.

Thank you.

all of the original drivers can be found in the T61 driver matrix.

Is there any particular order these need to be installed? and which truly need a reboot? My dell (the only thing I liked about it was the warranty) got extremely upset if things weren't installed in the right order.

Alternatively, you can Thinkvantage System Update, it will inform you which updates need a restart.

There is also the C:\SWTOOLS folder that will have all the vista drivers in it for install.

Won't be the latest...but copy off your system before you wipe as that will allow you to backtrack in case you can't find one of the Vista drivers on Lenovo's site.

Also make your factory preload recovery DVDs before you wipe.

Thanks for all the answers! I think I know what I'm getting myself into now and how I'll be able to restore in case I mess up.
