Slow shutdown

I've had my T-60 for about 6 months... just in the last month, it has started to take an unreasonable amount of time to shut down (4-5 minutes). I'm running XP professional... removed a couple of the Lenovo utilities (wireless management, power management stuff) a couple of months ago.

Someone else in my office has a Z and he is having the same problem... also started within the last month (he gets a 3 minute shutdown time).

Doesn't seem worth flattening the machine and reinstalling everything, but it is a nuisance. Is anyone else having this problem? Any thoughts??

Maybe a wrong driver / windows update?

Check whether it's set to erase the pagefile on shutdown. Mine takes several minutes longer to shutdown after I enabled that feature for security reasons.

http://www.johntp.com/2006/02/14/speed- ... -shutdown/

the above website has step by step instructions to speed up your windows shut down. I cut down mine by half or so.
also try checking for obvious malware.

Thanks, that helped!

I think it was the pagefile setting... My ClearPageFileAtShutdown registry entry was a "1". After changing to "0", the machine now shuts down in about 90 seconds. I found instructions on how to edit that registry setting at http://www.velocityreviews.com/forums/t ... tdown.html

I also did the other simple registry tuneup suggested by mattbiernat, so that may have helped too... but I'm pretty sure it was the pagefile.
